Our neighbours had a similar pet-based flood: went on vacation & left the cats home. Cats decided to turn on kitchen faucet - but not turn it off. Flooded main floor, down the stairs, lower floor. All flooring, baseboards, bottom of drywall replaced.
The same cats have also now worked out how to open the locked front door...
