"I don't want science to be political" is also saying "I don't want science to inform public policy" and perhaps some people do feel that way, but I don't want those people near science or public policy.

@Vrimj Even being "apolitical" is political because

Yes, everything is #politics, everything is #political. Trying to avoid politics does not make you safe. Being #politically aware, well-informed, and consistently active are our only hope for our individual and collective safety. Choosing to disengage is cowardly surrender, and does exactly what the oppressors want, making you another one of their tools. It's ok to rest and recharge, it's not ok to put the full burden on others; that's complicity.

@Vrimj the other way too, "I don't want public policy to be involved in science" where as sucky as the state of science is right now, there is at least public grants, public colleges that fund that science, and that science is accessible-ish. Without that, scientific advancement becomes privatized, secret, inaccessible, and owned by oligarchs.
@dontony @Vrimj
AIUI, a lot of science is privatized, secret, the property of corporations and governments.
@Vrimj
I don't want a bunch of scientifically illiterate lawyers deciding environmental issues. The SCOTUS has not one single member on either side who knows dogshit about science, so they allow corporations to rape the land with impunity, prevent the gov't from enforcing regulations that save people's lives and protect the environment, not to mention their intrusion into medical practice. The members of the #SCOTUS might just as well be professional football players making these decisions.
