we should actually make this place more attractive for artists i think
@esm "easiest bestest and fastest to use twitter clone" surely will grab everyones attention
@sneexy @esm lol twitter is NOT attractive for artists at all, its just one of the largest places where non-artists can consistently see it.
The only reason why artists use twitter is because of the possibility (no matter how much of an uphill battle it is) to generate an audience outside of pornographic content.
@ioletsgo @esm "easiest bestest and fastest to use twitter clone with a wonderful and goodly moderated community who love art :)))"
(probably should have mentioned that post (and this one as well) is a joke post)
@sneexy @esm what is blub going on about ⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️
@esm Wonder what should be done to do that
@freeplay incomplete profiles are a bit of an issue, going to an artist's page on your instance and not being able to view their gallery can be quite disappointing

@esm fully agreed. it would be wonderful if we saw a new, genuinely art-first platform in the fediverse, like a better deviantart or something

but short of that, a solution for full profile and post reply backfeeding might be the last big friction point to solve for them in activitypub. a standardized ability to sort media galleries into folders could be a game changer too. misskey has clips, which is great, but I barely see anyone use them

easy to read tooltips and simple, concise documentation is probably at least just as valuable as improving the software at this point

@esm this place is unfriendly to anyone who doesn't like computers
@esm I always try to say that the Fediverse can be quite friendly to artists, as it gets through many of the problems many art-based sites suffer from
@esm it would be cool if someone could easily go through all the unity screenshots ive posted (excluding other images i posted)
@esm As i already asked the other day on my main acc:
@esm as much as I love fedi it’s not great for this. Gallery feature kinda sucks here, esp exploring other instances. And good luck seeing any traction on a post once it leaves the local timeline. I’ve turned to self hosting as my solution for this. Also can’t see most artists in Japan cause their instances are mostly blocked (I agree with the reasoning as to why they’re blocked everywhere but it still sucks. Such a weird hill to die on for admins of those instances)
@esm One thing that I worry about as an artist is a lack of ability to transfer posts if you move instances (though I think Calckey has this?). If an artist were to move instances, they would need to repost their entire portfolio to catch up again, which would require a massive amount of time and effort to recreate all those old posts and image descriptions.

I have been hesitant to post my art because I don't like the format of mastodon.art very much and would prefer to use something like pixelfed.art. But their invites are always closed so I haven't been able to get in, and I know the more I post on masto the more I would have to manually transfer later, so it makes me just not want to post at all...
💀

(Even then, pixelfed isn't ideal either – people have mentioned wanting a "Fediverse DeviantArt" and honestly that would be so much better)
@esm what ive noticed is fedi seems to lack the same understanding of "don't repost" that a lot of other sites have which is... worrying. it feels like people will take artists not being on here as an invitation to post their art for them
@esm is it not attractive enough for artists already?
