Did you know that you can run the original Pikmin on Windows without an emulator by extracting the ROM files and adding a copy of MSVCRTD.DLL (used in Win98) to that same folder?

This has been known for years now, but blew my mind when I found out just recently. Here it is running on my PC!

@shanegillio Bloody hell! Just tried this. Wow! Next up, remove the code information, make it full screen and what are the controls and any chance of sound? ๐Ÿ™‚

@UKFilmNerd From what I understand, resizing the window changes the resolution? thereโ€™s more info here: https://tcrf.net/Pikmin_(GameCube)/Windows_Executable

Unfortunately no sound it seems :/

@shanegillio
what on earth, this rules and why does this work.

@jonny @shanegillio

exactly, and has it been evaluated to determine which calls are needed to draw / produce sound, so it can be done on other os's...
and flipped, can this be used to determine how to make calls for drawing on the gamecube?

- and if you don't know I'm gonna be calling in someone who probably does know (:

@jonny @shanegillio

I should go to work now, but obviously, I had to check, and yes the person who I know who does this sort of investigation writes stuff for the cutting room floor and therefore I am not surprized to find the writeup there...

@shanegillio This makes me wonder, how many PC ports like this were made during development of other Nintendo games?
@shanegillio @sinbad this is amazing. What other #emulator-less games can be emulated on PC/Mac?
