Some WIP on a 3d printed not-Tyranid, to be used in my D&D campaign. Following a tutorial on getting a 3rd edition type theme. C&C welcome.

@kriff only C&C is give me an alt text if you can so I can happily boost this amazing stuff 😅

Did you use Zenithal and contrasts all over? You’ve really nailed colour selections on it. Really pops off the screen. What’s the D&D creature you’re running it as - I’ve a few DM that would 100% run with something like this.

@rollleafd I have added alt text!

Thanks! It was slapchopped first, so primed dark and then drybrushed grey then white. And then yes lots of contrasts and drybrushing and highlights! Here is the full guide, which I had to adapt due to a lack of 1) paints and 2) painting ability: https://www.lorenzosasso.com/tutorial-painting-tyranids-with-3rd-edition-color-scheme-tabletop-quality/

Not sure about which monster, probably something homebrewed. Someone posted some tyranid stats on reddit a long time ago which I also like the look of https://www.reddit.com/r/DnD/comments/3qk9gm/using_warhammer_minis/

Tutorial: painting Tyranids with 3rd edition color scheme, tabletop quality. | Lorenzo Sasso

@kriff Any thoughts you’d have for next time with the method? My big take away is maybe finding test pieces to do some alternative drybrushes other than grey might be a nice way to get more out of it. Say a light brown under leather areas, yellow/cream under greens.

@rollleafd yeah agreed, and the benefit of 3d printing is that I've got another of the exact same model to do some testing on! I might just print a few test torsos though to mess about on. I've got some more paints arriving soon too which will help.

The original guide does say to drybrush in brown which I couldn't do so I will defo try that out!

@kriff I’ll keep an eye out - and exchange any experiences I have with my messing with drybrushing and contrasts. Lovely mini again really lovely. I hope it terrifies and almost eats all your players 😂
@rollleafd yeah dude would love to hear about that! My players asked for more dungeons recently so they might be regretting that soon...
