@dungeons Listen well, adventurers. With a Giant Wolf Spider before Nathaniel, the best course is to use the crossbow. Yes, it's two-handed & out-of-range, thus has disadvantage, but it's worth the risk. Spider's got 12HP, and our Ranger's mighty crossbow does 1d8+5 damage.
