Reformers be like: Through small, sensible, and realistic changes in the legal system, in 70 years we will finally no longer have black people being murdered by police. Until then, I'm sorry black people, but you and your loved ones must suffer while we do what's best for you.
I'm not sure I want to understand how reformers think--the hubris required to believe that non-radical changes will bring about radically different outcomes.
To think that police brutality will go away if we "just get the right people in power!" and "pass the right laws!" all while racism is at an all-time-high right now and *their* people are saying the *exact same thing* -- how can you possibly believe that you'll get it all fixed? How can you look at someone's family who is suffering from this and say "I'm sorry, but we just didn't vote for the right politicians; we didn't vote hard enough; we'll try harder... next election cycle..."
Fuck that and fuck thinking voting away fascism and racism is a "realistic" and "sensible" plan.
