a friend of mine is a truck driver and today he was training a new hire, who he described as "an old redneck dude". he said it was going alright until the old dude said "you know about them transgender folks?"

... uh oh

"yeah I'm thinking if them transgender folks can get such nice beards with testosterone maybe i should see if i can get it too, maybe finally get a nice beard growing in here..."

everything turned out better than expected!

gender affirming care for everyone!

@tarajdactyl ...haa, haa, haa

that's cool

and I suppose the new hire is cis?

@tarajdactyl Nothing makes me happier than a trans dude with an awesome beard. 😍
@faithisleaping right!? not gonna lie, i had a great deal of guilt about killing my beard growing ability because i could do what so many men (cis and trans alike) aspire to 😅
@faithisleaping @tarajdactyl i am subliminally messaging my trans friend to get a gandalf beard but its not been going well
@tarajdactyl This is so lovely. And yes! Gender affirming care for everyone.
@tarajdactyl I feel like this is the baseline human response - curious, sort of empathic, benign self-interest, if not accepting then at least indifferent - before right-wing media drips poison in their ear.
@tarajdactyl the one good part of transhumanism! \o/
@tarajdactyl DYKES TO WATCH OUT FOR had a perfect gag where, in the background of one panel you see a TV interviewer soliciting the most country lookin' old white guy's opinion on gay issues, and then, either in that strip or a later one, you get his extremely thoughtful and nuanced reply.

@tarajdactyl We readily accept cis-gender affirming care, breast implants, plastic surgery, liposuction, and other “body” enhancements. We even accept “age altering” care (I can’t call it affirming). If we are going to ban gender affirming care because it doesn’t reflect the biological sex at birth then I think we should ban surgery that changes the nose, the breasts, the lips and butt you were born with and anything that alters the natural aging process.

I am stepping off my soap box now.

@jackiegardina absolutely. though i feel strongly that we shouldn't ban it for anyone!!!

@tarajdactyl I was trying to hitch a ride the other day from a trucker and I was super nervous because I had a rainbow pride lanyard around my neck. The dude pulled up and said I could hop a board to get a ride to the end of the street and I took him up on it.

Because the trailer said Old Dominion I just assumed that he was some kind of christofash trash but was quite surprised when he complimented me on my beard. It's nice to have a man compliment another man on facial hair and I must have been blushing. 😅⚓🔱

@sleepylemur for future reference "old dominion" just means he's from northern Virginia 😁

(at least that company is based there. used to see a lot of those trucks when i lived near DC)

@tarajdactyl @sleepylemur These days, it just means he's a company employee.

Old Dominion (ODFL) is an enormous multinational freight company from Virginia, publicly listed on NASDAQ, part of the S&P 500, with 23k employees worldwide and ~$4B/yr global revenues.

@tarajdactyl I LOVE this.

I’m transmasc and you’d be surprised how many men I’m friends with have decided to give T a try because they saw it made such a big difference in my mental health and they started wondering if there’s was low because some of their depression sounded like a much less severe form of my dysphoria

@tarajdactyl I like where that story ended up 😺
@tarajdactyl @PennyLeScroche that is hands-down one of the most positive comments on that subject I’ve ever read; thank you for sharing. I’m glad it turned out that way.. usually older generations have such a hard time even accepting anyone that's not baseline male/female and hetero.
@tarajdactyl It happens. I’m a cisgendered white male, and if I don’t shave for a while, I don’t get a cool beard. I just look like a homeless sea captain.
@tarajdactyl
they had me in the first half not gonna lie
