THANKS apple, too many HZ could kill me... - Lemmy.one

Maybe the monitor doesnt support a higher refresb rate?
what 4k monitor doesnt support 30hz at 1080p?
From the specs it should do 4k@60. At 1080p it would be madness if it could not drive at 60.
yeah… macbooks for you…
Mine works fine at 2x 1440p144hz. Even my old loaner MacBook did fine at 1x 1440p144hz and 1x 1440p60hz, though that was a relatively old laptop (mid 2017).
this one is from2019, mistery!
I feel your pain bruh.
It might be the HDMI cake that limits the refresh rate, or if the Mac you are using doesn’t have a hdmi port it might be the adapter that is causing the limit. The specs for the monitor say it should go up to 60hz at 4K
same exact setup pushes 4k 60hz to any Dell in the office.
Damn, just do sudo rm -rf / and roll back to Linux.
my laptop is in RMA so im stuck with this for a bit more (and i tried using linux on it but it sucks)
You sound like a super happy person, I’m sure people love spending time with you

Dafuq? XD

Sure buddy, remember to take your medicine

Lol what a weirdo

Have a look at BetterDisplay. It should unlock all functions of your display past Apple’s restrictions.

thanks but it doesnt let me select the refresh rate which is the problem here.

also … paid software to set display resolution. oooof

You can compile your own for free, it’s on GitHub. You can go to the AppStore and there you pay because the dev has to pay for Dev account to Apple.
yeahh, thats not acceptable for me.

SwitchResX should be able to help you. I use this with my Mac VM, the dummy plug I was using wasn’t showing me most of the resolutions I know it supports and this fixed it

thank you! sadly when i select the correct resolution and framerate from this program it applies correctly but the image quality is much worse than 30hz, very blurry and basically unusable… bummer
Strange. Have you tried switching out the HDMI or Displayport cable you have hooked up to the monitor currently?
yes and those work fine with every other laptop here so its not that
Mine was like that with HDMI cable until I have my hands on the usb-c to mini-display cable
i only have type c ports here so everything goes trough a dock(and i tried 5 different ones so its not that)
if you have a usb-c to display port, give that a try without a dock usb-c hub -> usb-c display port only work on high end hubs (i have an alogic right in front of me know that works)
i tried 5 docks that work fine on any other laptop
If you’re trying to troubleshoot this, he’s saying to try it with just the cable so that you can identify that it’s the doc causing the issue and not your computer/os/monitor/cables. Remove variables and continue.

i tried 5 different docks, its not the dock…

all those variables work fine with any other laptopt, the macbook is the variable here.

Have you tried a different OS on the laptop?

Have you looked for updated drivers and firmware for the dock?

For the brief time while I had Linux on the laptop it worked fine 4k 60p.

No I didn’t since they work fine with other laptops

But you have this laptop that you want it to work on, genius. Problem is fixable. You’re just being lazy.

im getting my old laptop back so i dont care too much.

you are being shitty for no reason at all. chill.

No one’s being shitty here but you lol. If you don’t care too much, respond to the people trying to help you with “it’s just a shitpost lol” instead of “😡 mac bad, i tried nothing and I’m all out of ideas”
i think you can find a more productive way to use your time. i havent been shitty to anybody :) please feel free to move past this
Considering I’m getting paid while interacting with your shitpost, I actually can’t think of a better use for my time lol
then please dont act like i offended your sister :)
But my sister actually designed the whole 2019 Touchbar MacBook Pro and you’ve deeply offended her.
You come here asking for help and dismiss people trying to help lol
Where did I ask for help???
Where did I ask for help?

They are telling you not to use ANY dock. Connect the cable to the monitor.

My Macbook drives a 144hz 4K display, so your issue is not your Mac unless you have an Intel based Mac.

Likely it is either the cable or user error.

This MacBook has 4 tpye c ports and that’s it. So you need some kind of adapter,no way around it. I tried and the results are the same.
Have you tried a direct USB-C to DisplayPort adapter or cable (not a dock)?
Yes,same thing

Weird, that seems to unusual based on people’s responses here and my quick Google.

I think it’s still solvable, in addition to the docks, there must be a cable or adapter that is causing the issue.

but why does it work fine with any other laptop?
I can’t answer that, despite that, there is a resolution. What model / year Mac is it?
2019 macbook pro with touchbar
You can get both HDMI cables and DisplayPort cables that are USB C on the other end. These will plug directly into the USB C ports on the laptop without any docks or adapters involved.
It’s just an integrated adapter…
You only need a thunderbolt 4 to displayport cable. No dock needed. Most docks are USB-C based (unless you buy a thunderbolt dock) don’t support higher resolutions and may or may not support proper refresh rates.
higher resolutioons like 1080p???

You are one dense and argumentative idiot.

Return the Mac please.

are you ok? how are you getting upset over a laptop that doesnt work properly?
I think I hit this issue before. If you’re using hdmi try using DisplayPort.
yeah apple’s dp support is much better then hdmi
This is strange. What mac are you trying to connect and are you using any adapters?
