Personal Justifications for different phone life cycles

In the comments there were a variety of answers, but what interested me is that there were a wide variety of answers for how long each person liked to go before upgrading. You could also have battery is noticablely worst after 2 years, also one argument most people don't realize is that the antenna technology starts to receive less of a signal (from past experience and from what I heard I don't know how scientific it is)
It sounds exceptionally not scientific.
