Alright I’ve now Played A Fortnite (on stream this evening).

Zero Build mode is (unsurisingly) fun!
It’s a battle royale, they’re fun.

The menu UI, however, is an absolute hellscape.
I assume it’s designed this way specifically to trick people into spending (which, I mean they ARE, Epic was successfully sued for this). But holy SHIT they’re ugly.

@Graham_LRR you can play Gambit now in Fortnite. No idea why anyone would want to, no one plays it in Destiny. 😛

My train of thought upon reading this-
'Oh I didn't know they had x-men on there. Makes sense though.

Oh, like in destiny 2. Well, I wonder if they do have x-men. Can you be Gambit doing Gambit?'

According to google, yes.

Honestly this game I tried to install one time back in like, 2018, it errored, got annoyed and yelled at someone I knew who worked at Epic (in a friendly manner), then watched, bemused, as it took over the internet for a while.

Not my speed.

I tend to get hooked on it for a week or two every couple months. I'm an "achievement chaser", but in the past few chapters, they've made some of the quests only accessible in build modes. This is a LOT less fun.

Unless you're willing to spend hours programming/refining macros for your specific setup, you stand no chance in build modes. "Cranking 90s" has devolved into "pushing a hot-key to automate cranking 90s".

Also, the prevalence of aim-bots is ABSURD in anything ranked.

@Graham_LRR So many modern games slowly turn their menus into an undecipherable fractal of DLC, events, currencies, different ways to microtransact, battle passes, etc.; all of them blinking for your attention.

Completely impossible to navigate to navigate for someone who comes into it later in it's lifetime.

@Graham_LRR yeah 100%. dark patterns all over the place. I remember you asking if you could change your character in the lobby - you absolutely can't, you have to pay to have any control over how you look at all

@Graham_LRR "Was successfully sued for this" and still doing it. Almost as if simple fiscal penalties aren't an effective deterrent for lucrative illegal practices.

@Graham_LRR Went back and watched a little bit of the Fortnite stream. Wow, yeah that UI is a mess!
