Isn't it crazy how AOC seems concerned about the possibility of one billionaire-backed #Twitter clone (#Threads) potentially outshining another billionaire-backed Twitter clone (#Bluesky)?

I really wish she understood the reasons behind Threads having an advantage over Bluesky: rather than embracing
#ActivityPub, Bluesky decided to develop their own protocol entirely.

It all comes down to a certain billionaire, Jack Dorsey, who wasn't keen on collaborating with the established
#Fediverse. That's why Bluesky is most likely headed for failure.

How is #BlueSky actually doing? We saw posts of #Threads reaching 80 million sign-ups, and it has been trending in the news, where BlueSky didn't get the same media attention?

Why is that? Does #Meta and #Zuckerberg just have such a pressence and reputation? Was it advertised more on #Instagram and #Facebook, where Bluesky was oppressed and cancelles on #Twitter and didn't have any other platforms to advertise itself on?

It's quite interesting how the one just took off and the other died a slow death. Will be more interesting to actually see how long this lasts.

I think Threads is enjoying its success just due to people just trying to become the biggest accounts quickly by being the first on the platform. Similarly to if a #Tiktok alternative were to be launched. Influencers often chace these new platforms just to become the biggest hit due to being a first-mover.

I don't think #bluesky has died a slow death....yet. The problem is that nobody can get on and use it, other than an elite group of folks who somehow snagged a coveted invite (seriously....how?). Why would a platform that people can't actually try out make any kind of mainstream waves?

I think #Meta was smart to just push "go" and let everyone pile in. Sometimes a very slow ramp-up doesn't work to create hype. Find your critical mass and THEN figure out the details.

So #BlueSky is still invite based? That says a lot about the statibility and their actual trust in their own product. How can it still be invited based at this point?

I think I did get one. Will check in my email, but at that time, I was already very active here on #Mastodon and didn't care for it.

#Threads #Meta #BlueSky

@Stark9837 @LazyBear @atomicpoet As a person who got the invitation, yes it's still invitation-based...

It's a good but not vibrant community, full of elitism like AOC. And no sustainable revenue model yet, I know they are collaborating with Namecheap to sell domains for their IDs

@charliechan @LazyBear @atomicpoet

Sounds like a precursor for NFT-based domains to milk #crypto and the #fediverse in one go.
