I’m hoping to get a new pet #RollyPolly but I have a problem. I don’t know where to catch one in the middle of summer. I’m in a suburban area in the #pnw (US Pacific Northwest). Does anyone have ideas for where to look? Or should I just wait until fall/winter? #isopods #Isopoda #isopod
@CoolFrog Turn over big chunks of wood if you can find them, or rocks, they should be in the moist dirt underneath along with some bonus many legged creatures
@volbard yeah the problem is that there isn’t really any moist dirt, even under stones, because we’ve had a heat wave. I haven’t seen any wet-weather creatures for about a week except for a dead slug. So I’m not sure where all the creatures hide in really hot weather
@CoolFrog @volbard in shady places, under a layer or two of mulch, bigger chunks of wood, like ones that are glued down by the mud under them.
@CoolFrog have you tried looking near springs/creeks/wetlands? There's always still moist dirt here, you might just have to go deep into the woods or up into the mountains. #PNW
@Cetraria most of them around here have been covered in concrete, but I’ll try to find one. Thanks!
@CoolFrog Yeah, it's getting harder and harder to find near where people live anymore. Good luck!
@CoolFrog I live in SoCal and they kind of just appear on my patio at night around the perimeter. Try looking under stones, dead leaves, etc just after sunset. I kept an eye out cause I wanted a few for my snail terrarium and it was way faster than I expected especially during a heat wave!
