How Threads’ privacy policy compares to Twitter’s (and its rivals’)

Here’s what is collected by Threads, as well as by Twitter, Bluesky, Mastodon, Spill, and Hive Social.

It's funny. I wasn't a massive Twitter user but in the pre Musk days it was often my "bathroom break scrolling goto". Then Musk took over and I immediately realized it's not worth sticking around so I deleted my tweets , set my account to private, etc. Haven't been back since.

Wasn't really a privacy concern for me as I understand using any of these corporate social media sites means I'm the product.

Then I saw this Mastodon thing and figured I'd give it a go. I'm an Open Source/Linux/Homelab guy so it seemed this would better align with my personal view of the world. After a bit of a learning curve I've come to realize that using Twitter is like being in a noisy room where you become accustomed to the noise and just put up with it and what the noise is doing to your mental health. Then somebody turns off the noise and you feel this massive sense of relief as you didn't realize how bad the noise was. That's how Mastodon feels for me.

I will never go back to a Meta/Google/Musk owned social media platform ever again. I don't care if more people are on them. This is such a better place to be. Thanks People of Mastodon.
