Well, I did manage to get the NYT to post about “VC qanon” and the brainworms infecting the tech tycoons. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/07/06/opinion/robert-kennedy-jr-silicon-valley.html

And here’s some more on how we ended up here. https://www.anildash.com/2023/07/07/vc-qanon/
"VC qanon" and the radicalization of the tech tycoons - Anil Dash

@anildash Thank you for both of these
@anildash Dang, this is one of the scariest things I've read this week, SMH.
@anildash How many tech VCs have written a line of code?
@TheSpork probably most have dabbled.
@anildash I mean this as a compliment because I agree with your post… How can you get away with writing something like that? Doesn’t it upset our tech overlords?
@stanley there’s a weird thing where I’ve been critical for so long, and have enough visibility, that it’s hard for me to just be dismissed. But they absolutely don’t like me and would stop me being able to do something like fundraise from venture capital again if they could.
@anildash I guess you could always pull a “Not you of course, Bob. You’re one of the good ones.” if you really needed to raise. It might even feed their ego.
@anildash this is a really helpful insight into the internal motivations of billionaires toward conspiracy and fascism, more than just their superiority complex, it’s about their insecurities and sheltered worlds
@anildash Also, as people further remove themselves into their own bubble, the less they have a clue about how other peoples' problems work. They have more power to affect it, but poor visibility. Even if someone's intentions were wholly benevolent, if you're in the echo chamber, you can't make good decisions because you lack the information.
@anildash Progressive taxes that ends up at 95% over $100m in assets. They’d use a lot less carbon too.
@anildash Succinct & pulls no punches. Thank you for writing this.
This is a terrific piece @anildash.
@ifilljustice thanks so much. Grateful for you reading!
@anildash Great piece. It seems, in retrospect, like this was inevitable. It’s just a stone’s throw from growing up wanking to Ayn Rand.

@anildash

Ethel needs to disown him and Bobby is spinning in his grave.

@anildash

This is a NO-Brainer = DISRUPTION is predator's playbook hint hint... Elon's pig dunk is working out pretty well in this regard- eh ?

@anildash That is a *brilliant* explanation of how reflexive contrarianism takes root in some people's brains. My father-in-law succumbed to it, as did an ex-friend and just about everyone on Hacker News. By destroying trust in every kind of institutional knowledge, it plays right into the hands of would-be dictators.
@anildash so they believe their own bullshit and really think that because they had a silver spoon up their ass and they made money that they're the only ones that can save the planet. If they weren't so awful it might even be sad.

Why does Silicon Valley love RFK Jr.?

The New York Times
@anildash pretty much could have stopped after the first four words of the title. Kennedy is just a symptom

@anildash

Steve Bannon is also a big fan.

That should tell people everything they need to know a RFK jr.

His dad is rolling over in his grave!!!!

Indeed, an interesting article by Paul Krugman about: 'the role of technology billionaires in modern American political life'.

Thanks for posting and congrats that your observation about VC's bubble was mentioned in the NYT.

One quote from Krugman:
"I suspect that famous, wealthy men may be especially frustrated by their inability to control events, or even stop people from ridiculing them on the internet."
