Ban private cars in cities. Seriously.
@davidho So that the CEO's have a easier way to get to the office?
@jeena if she’s riding a bicycle, yes.
@davidho he's driving the Mercedes the company pays for ;)

@jeena @davidho
Company owned mercedes is a private car.

Only cars allowed are from government run car sharing and delivery services for food, products and mail.
And of course public transport.
Everything else needs to get banned from cities.
To get into the city you have to park somewhere at the city border and then use public transport.

@ninafelwitch @davidho ah ok, hm so I'm not quite up to speed why the CEOs mercedes is a private car but the delivery for food is not a private car.
@jeena I see you are unable to understand simple concepts. Must be really hard to get through daily life.

@ninafelwitch @jeena @davidho
There are plenty of cities, I am fine with 1 trying it out. Keep in mind, they are all basically democracies and you have to convince a majority of residents to support this. Maybe you exempt all current residents, but all exemptions will have people trying to manipulate them - not an excuse not to do it, you just need a well crafted law and continuing support for updating it as necessary.

The crux is that you have to convince individuals, there is no dictator.

@davidho I share the sentiment but I worry about accessibility issues, where maybe some people might need private cars to get into town?
@drmambobob @davidho "get into town" and "get around town" are two different problem areas.
@ojrask @davidho Yeah that’s a good point. At least would be good to be able to get somewhere close enough with young kids before having to switch to public transport
@drmambobob @davidho yup, it is important to have good inbound connectivity for people who are not coming from some other city via train or so on, and have to opt for a car instead.
@ojrask @davidho though we did struggle in Tokyo when my wife was pregnant and subsequently with a newborn. Big cities need to be more accessible even with the current public transport infrastructure, especially barrier free station designs.
@davidho Yes! I would add: and build proper infrastructure for people with caring responsibilities that may not only have to mobilize in the direction of city centers
@davidho London, Birmingham, Manchester just applied for market town status.....
@davidho Do you believe that lowering the speed limit significantly could help?
@davidho yup, but let’s have a plan…
@davidho bikes and pedestrian plazas for better exercise, cleaner air, outdoor eating, safe kid zones… the benefits go on and on!!!
@davidho I'm not a fan of letting Uber dictate when and where we're allowed to travel

@davidho

I love the idea, but people would doubtless claim it was an infringement of personal liberties. However, doing what London has done, charging people a high fee to access central areas, may not a bad starting point. People with disabilities, special circumstances etc., could apply for dispensation, or reduced costs. If all it does is hurt people who can't afford it, it's not a win, but it may be better than what we have.

@davidho good idea, the mayor of London has gradually been doing that for years. Just make sure you invest heavily in transport infrastructure at the same time if you want people to switch from cars smoothly.
