@Jedigirl

Right on! Rich people and corporations EXPECT government assistance to bail them out and/or protect their property!
There’s never any discussion of conditions on the help (like for Food Stamp recipients) — just a knee jerk reaction to rush relief to the rich.
It’s the same with corporate pay of top executives vs raises for employees. No one sez exec compensation is gonna break the company or asks if a CEO is worth all those millions!

@bronakins @Jedigirl if only more people were willing to let themselves ask stupid and annoying inconvenient questions like "and then where does *that* come from?"

then we might not be as easily trapped in a world where those holding something hostage with their power can always pretend they're creating that thing through their power
@Jedigirl meanwhile Elon Musk launches another 1200 satellites, consuming precious Earth orbits. His rent payments to the rest of the world? $0.
@Jedigirl Yeah, strange that no one ever says that about heirs.
@Jedigirl I mean...if you consider billionaires morally bankrupt, they are also considered poor.
@Jedigirl yeah, they never have needs testing for rich people. They should, constantly.
@Jedigirl I grew up around people who had that knee-jerk reaction to inequality. It was always the people on food stamps, Medicaid, etc., who were "lazy and destroying the economy."
Decades later, I still have to argue with the same people when they bash the poor yet give a wide birth to the rich. Sadly, for most of the people I'm talking about, the notion is so baked-in that I'm not sure what argument will turn it around.

@Jedigirl Such a mood, yeah!

Hrm. Would changing the tense on this make it more targeted and/or impactful? (Rubber-ducking this more than asking, I realized, but input is welcome.)

"But what if they wouldn't deserve that money?" comments on social services.

"But what if they haven't deserved that money?" feels like a comment applied more to rich people, even if they themselves can't comprehend the question.

@Jedigirl we as Americans have an overwhelming fear of people exploiting things meant to help people who need them

@Jedigirl

"Nothing for the poor, because they have been negligent and irresponsible.

Everything for the rich, because they have been negligent and irresponsible."
SearingTruth

@Jedigirl "we pay ourselves $XXXXXXXXXXXXXX /year but the company lost $XXXX last month. Who can we fire and how much more can we raise our prices to make up for this?" surely not just pay yourselves fucking less. Capitalism in a nutshell.
@Jedigirl I ask it about Zuckerberg, Bezos and Musk a lot...
@Jedigirl @rmondello not asked by me. Even though the panhandle hustle gets tiresome. We are most all skint, brother.
@Jedigirl
One of the great successes of the right wing has been to convince ordinary people that rich people work hard and poor people are lazy...
@Jedigirl money is gained by providing value to other people, you will only receive other's money if they value your offer higher than the money you ask, so with the exception of government corruption everyone in a laissez faire market has exactly as much money as they deserve
