Since July 1 you no longer need a concealed weapon permit to carry firearms in Florida

Ben T. Davis Beach, FL:

A 7-year-old was shot in the head and his grandfather was shot in the hand trying to defend the child

This escalated when the grandfather told people on jet skis they were endangering children

There were 17 mass shootings over the July 4th holiday
This year so far:
360 mass shootings
923 children under 18 murdered

It’s the guns.

🇺🇸

@flexghost
and the inbred morons who carry them
@flexghost FUCK the GQP Domestic Terrorists!
@flexghost ……. or is it continued citizen tolerance for increasing numbers of mass shootings and military style firearm ownership. A lot of outrage heard, but little else is happening. In the end, from the outside looking in it appears too many people are simply OK with it.

@browngraham243 @flexghost

Public: *Constant protesting for gun regulations*

Lawmakers: *Ignore the public*

You: Gee, guess people are A-Okay with gun violence. Do better you guys, sheesh

Zero thought went into your message. Like seriously, sometimes you can just not say what’s on your mind.

@Yeetymarqeety

Where are the protests?

Where are the people on the street?

Where are the people pushing back in their churches?

Where are the people committed to civil disobedience?

Where are the people occupying their representatives offices?

@JoeChip these stories make the news, occasionally, but google is free. Your scoffing reminds me of the people who still ask for evidence the orange committed any crimes. At this point, I’m beginning to believe not knowing some things is willful ignorance.

@flexghost

When I was a kid, you could buy guns made of wax…yummy!

@flexghost does this mean that they were carrying a weapon *on a JetSki*?
@flexghost Yes it is the guns. America has become worse than the wild west.

@flexghost

Population control, southern style

@flexghost

America’s obsession with guns is based on an obsession of feeling unsafe. Big macho dudes walking around with guns are big time scaredy-cats. This country needs mass therapy not mass guns

@flexghost I hate living here. Came fairly close to moving.
@Swish7 I’m applying
@flexghost I work remote, so can go anywhere.. But my wife's job is hard to come by (professor). She made it to a final round for a job in California. It was the closest we got. Also applied to a lower ranked position in WNY, but got no bites. Frustrating stuff. Somebody as smart as you should have no trouble... I obsess about it until despair sets in.
@flexghost still think the US doesn't need gun laws. I am not in a NY hurry to visit anywhere in the US.

@flexghost
You mention making gun laws more strict too and so many pro gun people get pissed like.. It's sus that they don't agree with needing proper training and handling.

It's clear they want fast easy access guns.

What sucks too is all the anti trans laws in Florida and now they are loosening gun laws 🤕

@flexghost NOOO!! That poor child.... 😭
@flexghost
At my local park this morning where I walk and visit with friends every morning, some asshole walked by with a fanny pack made for conceal carry. I'm so angry. Desantis needs to sink into a 'gator infested swamp.

@flexghost

I am going to continue my mission to get 2A removed, and a new A added that makes bodily autonomy a constitutional right.

@Edelruth How do you plan to enjoy gun-free living when those who break the law keep and bear them, anyway?

@flexghost

@ihavenopeopleskills @flexghost

You just made the argument for destroying guns held outside the law. Thanks for that
Now we just need the laws.

@Edelruth We're circling back to my question: how do you plan to enjoy #gunfreeliving when those who are legally mandated to destroy their guns refuse to do so?

@flexghost

@ihavenopeopleskills @flexghost

Apply the rule of law to the lawbreakers.

Shocking concept, I know.

#Ouroboros

@Edelruth All right. How will you catch the people who refuse to give up their firearms?

@flexghost

@ihavenopeopleskills @flexghost

Astonishingly enough, we do have law enforcement personnel who actually believe in the rule of law. Also, who suffer at the hands of currently law-abiding (depending where you live), and in this scenario, future law-breaking gun owners.

To argue that gun control laws could never be enacted is to argue that there is nothing that can be done to prevent elementary school children from being blown apart.

Not. True.

@Edelruth How do you propose this approach to #gunfreeliving will be enforced? People who have guns illegally don't display them openly unless they're shooting someone.

@flexghost

@ihavenopeopleskills

If they never, ever get used illegally, they are outside of this discussion.

They essentially do not exit.

@Edelruth Not sure I understand you. I understand that your position is that:

  • gun control laws can be enacted (I don't disagree with you, by the way, observing other jurisdictions)
  • by banning guns we will be rid of them and no one will use them to murder others

Is my understanding correct?

@ihavenopeopleskills

My position is that the US can only attain a reduction in gun deaths to levels in other countries, by radically changing law, and practices around guns.

Starting with the very obvious one, no one has a right to uncontrolled possession of a gun. Obviously. Axiomically.

Would it take a long time to drop American gun deaths to the level of let's say Finland?
Decades, maybe a century.

Are kindergartners worth that time and expenditure?
Yes, they are.

@ihavenopeopleskills

I have skin in this argument, unbloodied, but skin nonetheless.

So here's another position I stand behind:

America has a mass murdered schoolchild issue, because enough Americans vote for that.

And that is the actual problem. Americans cannot separate their romance with guns from the daily reality of their murdering use.

Daily.

God gods, daily.

@Edelruth How many of these mass shootings occur at schools where faculty and staff are armed? They're out there.

@ihavenopeopleskills @flexghost

And they will continue to be out there for as long as people shrug, and say, "they are out there", and just give up.

They can be found, gathered up, and destroyed.

Half of America just fainted, but we absolutely should be coming for "your" guns. Those people who do not want to register them, pay a license to use them, prove they are skilled in handling them, you know, like for a car. No one is coming for anyone's car, because rationale safeguards are in place.

@ihavenopeopleskills @flexghost

Oh, I forgot: be insured to own one, and be accountable under law for all injuries caused by them. If it was justifiable defense, the insurance is to cover that.

@Edelruth

@flexghost

  • Do you think gun owners will cooperate with such a plan to find, gather up and destroy them?

  • Do you think all gun owners cooperate with registration requirements? Mind you, some Canadian provinces had such a hard time with this they simply gave up.

  • How effective is training, licensure, registration and insurance at preventing vehicle deaths?

  • Some states already have registration requirements: Michigan does for handguns whose owner doesn't have a Concealed Pistol License. Michigan also has some of the most stringent requirements in the nation to lawfully carry handguns concealed (a law that could have been enforced on the MSU shooter beforehand but wasn't). Defensive Gun Users are frequently sued by the attacker's family, which is why many of us carry insurance from companies such as CCW Safe and U.S. Law Shield.

  • All laws do is cause impediments to honest people and bust the people whom the system actually finds and bothers to prosecute. The system doesn't bother to enforce the laws they already have.

    MSU shooter Anthony McRae's past shows warning signs

    Neighbors said Anthony McRae would fire a gun out the back door of the Lansing home he shared with his father, possibly for target practice.

    The Detroit News

    @ihavenopeopleskills

    I think you might even believe your words.

    I don't. Not one of them.

    Our children don't have to be left to die just because American gun owners are irredeemable.

    They are not the evil that you describe here.

    I think I am done with our discussion here, because you don't seem to have a point, other than "give up! Just let the children die!"

    And I am never going to join you there

    @ihavenopeopleskills @flexghost

    @flexghost , you keep being looped in. Would you prefer to be dropped out of this conversation?

    @Edelruth @ihavenopeopleskills
    One of you is in bad faith and immune to facts and is already muted

    One of you is a decent person wasting your skills on someone who clearly doesn’t deserve them

    Yes please.

    @flexghost
    What kind of person shoots at unarmed children at the beach? Americans.
    @flexghost it's to compensate for the lack of abortion and sexual education?
    @flexghost It's the idiots with the guns that have no respect for other people, or their lives.
