I moved from #reddit over to #lemmy last week... Much like I said here when I first got this account... it very much feels like the early internet.

Know what else it made me realize?

Redditors are fucking ASSHOLES.

I think I shall stay here and Lemmy, where true conversations can be had as opposed to snarky responses to... literally everything... for no good goddamn reason.

@cheeseblintzes Yeah Reddit was a funny ol place

@SameGirlie Fucking awful, really. lmao

Glad to be free after almost 13 years.

@cheeseblintzes This space is nice, gotta say!
@cheeseblintzes I like to hop back to Reddit once in a while. It reminds me why I like Mastodon better.

@rebecca_meadows I hopped over there today to read up on a washed up celebrity's downfall... made one comment... and came running back this direction.

#Fediverse for the win.

@cheeseblintzes I have always hated that aspect of Reddit culture and consider it basically unusable for anything other than read-only mode
@Mage_of_Aquarius I think I only started commenting during the pandemic. Wish I never did. It was nicer before.
@cheeseblintzes YES. The genuine friendliness caught me by surprise as well! I didn’t realize how bad we had it at all. Good riddance . :・゚✧!

@laurel I have hopes (though reaching as they may prove to be) that those of us who remember the early internet days will try to keep it like that, at least to an extent.

Using the internet didn't used to be stressful.... unless it was because your html to make your myspace music not autoplay wasn't working right, or something of that nature. I feel like my brain has been freed.

@cheeseblintzes It's surprisingly refreshing how awesome people are here on Lemmy.

@livingcoder I honestly think that those of us that made the move have seen the writing on the wall for awhile, whether consciously or not, had thrown the towel in, and were waiting for the next form.

Also cute bb in your pfp

@cheeseblintzes

Let me record here my strong protest: Reddit is not Twitter! Yes, their business practices are horrible, but there was never The Rage Machine (offering "related" content just to make a reader more agitated) and quality of content depends mostly on subreddit you choose. Despite spirited battles my most often read one, /r/HPfanfiction is usually civilized and polite.

@mcepl We will have to agree to disagree on that one.

Even clicking into threads in certain subreddits to read what the hell was wrong with whoever the poster was could start suggesting you alternative information sort of subreddits.

I know there are subreddits out there that don't necessarily ascribe to the same formula I mentioned above, but they are either smaller or few and far between... sometimes both.

For instance, in the almost 13 years I've been on reddit... I've never heard of the subreddit you mentioned... but the likelihood of it coming up between my distaste for fan fiction and my disdain for JK Rowling... despite having bought the first four on release day... wouldn't ever have the subreddit cross my path.

It wasn't the curated rage machine that twitter was, but I don't think reddit is innocent, either.

@cheeseblintzes

1. I won't get into defending JKR here (not enough space, wrong format), but yes most participants are against her opinions (I am not), so it is not just a stupid fan club.

2. That was point, content hugely differs between subreddits and mostly depends on people there and mods. It is really not "them" who are in fault of crap.

@cheeseblintzes I feel the same about Lemmy. I see notifications and always end up surprised at the number of thoughtful comments and upvotes. For a small community it feels so active and vibrant.

@mysoulishome I spent the last day or so commenting around on reddit.... it never occurred to me before how much you are lost in the void over there. I truly appreciate the conversation in the fediverse.

I've said before and I'll say again, it feels like early internet where no one really knew what was going on... but at least you were conversing with real people who (hopefully) weren't always out to fight with you.

I feel like going over to reddit I have to put armor on... but around these parts I can just vibe.

Can I take the internet crap? Absolutely. Should I HAVE to take it? No.
