@jsnell Your knowledge on recent pod seemed like the best I’ve ever heard about nfc / uwb / Bluetooth… here’s what I’ve never figured out:

Why can’t I just walk up to my house door and it unlocks, like my car? With range and direction and low power that should be entirely possible. Taking my phone out of my pocket sucks. (Wife: purse)

@rjj the big problem is, it doesn't know where you are -- inside or out. In the car that doesn't matter. In the house, you could leave your phone near the door and it would keep your door unlocked, which is unsafe. So instead smart lock apps wait for you to leave your home area entirely, then send the unlock message when they return and see the lock. Or the locks await the NFC tap which indicates you're at the door.

@jsnell right about direction.

ahh, so cars are using Bluetooth, plus the knowledge that the car is off and doors are locked etc.

Also why the F has UWB been forgotten for 4 years?!

@rjj UWB isn't quite forgotten but it's verrrrry slowly rolling into cars. Apple's CarKey thing uses UWB. It's just super slow integration.
