I talked to Instagram chief Adam Mosseri about Threads, a radical new social network where you can view more than 600 posts per day, totally free of charge https://www.platformer.news/p/meta-unspools-threads
Meta unspools Threads

Instagram chief Adam Mosseri on the company's big new swing at Twitter

Platformer
@caseynewton off to a great start
@wheelsee @caseynewton I fixed that error by disabling my vpn, force quitting App Store, and trying again.
@com @caseynewton yeah it took a few force closes of App Store to work
@caseynewton the fact that the lack of viewing limits in 2023 is a feature is totally embarrassing for 🐦
@hypernova @caseynewton totally embarrassing for the modern world
@caseynewton Sorry, but I prefer software where I can use my keyboard and monitor with it instead of a tiny phone.
@david1 @caseynewton Me too. Looking forward to Threads being federated with ActivityPub so I can reply to my friends there from Mastodon.
@caseynewton i give them a month before Threads becomes a tab in the Instagram app.

@caseynewton Following links from the Article->Play Store->Permissions & Privacy-Developer Privacy Policy->Meta Privacy policy

Where there is nary a mention of #Threads

I'm sure you have seen the laundry list of permissions and data floating around from their store listings...and the news the EU is a non starter (Even for the developer!) Which is horrific enough.

But bro, you gotta keep up with the TOS on the app stores or they will happily boot you.

#NotCool #Zuck

@caseynewton What's the tl;dr as to what makes this radical?
@caseynewton bold strategy Cotton. Let’s see if that pays off.

@caseynewton free of charge?!
You're kidding me, right?

It's costing you your #privacy

@caseynewton just wait, if Twitter blue subscriptions soar cause of that tweet limitations, other companies will follow

@caseynewton but can’t look at a feed of only who you follow.

More snow on the winternet

@caseynewton Hey, saw in the article that you mentioned on the article that on Mastodon you have to write the whole handle to find an account. I use Tusky on Android and there it seems to work by searching just for the username (screenshot attached)
@caseynewton The suggested content from accounts i dont follow killed it for me. So i joined mastodon! I guess when threads intregrates properly all those people will be on mastodon too, but at least I can have a good app while talking to them
@caseynewton Er, nope. To follow someone on here one doesn't have to know their server or not necessarily the complete user name. If you type just a name into the searchfield it shows you different accounts with that name. You can than follow the one you were looking for. Just saying :)
@caseynewton Re the comparison: As far as one might know, Twitter 2010 did not collect this data: https://mastodon.social/@BasicAppleGuy/110653347642958580
@TonyHill when did that change???
@caseynewton I don't know. Since spending more time on here I always did it that way. Lucky me? ;)
