Make mastodon artist positive!

@tarrien Like a true fren, we look out for each other ;3c thank you for helping us reach further than before
@tarrien @CheetahObscura it’s like starting over with fresh accounts from way back in the day! Discovering all kinds of new people

@tarrien
The biggest disconnect I've seen is between Mastodon users expecting alt text and artists coming from platforms where those features were rarely used or didn't exist at all.

I feel bad when an artist is wanting to establish themselves on the platform but they're unwilling to take the steps needed to make people want to support them, even after being nudged repeatedly about it.

@KinkyKobolds @tarrien
my personal attempt to mediate is that i reply to such posts with adding some descripional text and espically HASHTAGS in my answer

I think not using them is one of the worst things why artists and potential clients dont find each others here

Of course, the first issue is how to get people to move here at all, i still see actually artists on FA who say "Follow me on Twitter" or even "I have now made a Twitter account" and refuse Mastodon because "noone uses it"

@crazy_pony
It's absurd to say that nobody uses Mastodon considering that we have something like 4000 active accounts just here on meow. There are also plenty of furries on other servers. So while the absolute numbers are certainly lower than Twitter, the furry niche on here is very healthy.
@tarrien
@KinkyKobolds @tarrien
Oh, that was cited from the artists and makers who refuse to start at Mastodon as their reason, they see Twitter still as sthe gold standard for finding clients
@tarrien my problem is i don't really know many artists who post on the fediverse, i follow them on tumblr and instagram but don't really know any that i like already who post lol

@tarrien I retoot artists a lot. And enjoy their stuff.

But I think that it is important to realize that Mastodon isn't just their free advertising service. I block people who are clearly just using me as free advertising. It seems fine to me to share one's work and mention that it can be purchased and where.

@johnb48 @tarrien Mmhm. Some artists are going to have to re-learn how to be part of a community, not just advertising to a community
@OctaviaConAmore @tarrien I like what you said. I want us all to be a community. And simultaneously I don't want to be taken advantage of.
@tarrien thanks for supporting us. Who likes digital art and funny art visit my profile. 🙂
@tarrien I for one love the influx of artists on the fedi
@tarrien I have a friend, she is an artist, she wants to work on commissions with her art, but we are still working on that, is Mastodon a good place for a new artist to show their art and commission it? i ask from total ignorance
@tarrien I bought a book of poetry today from someone I met here, does that count? :)
@tarrien Humble hello thanks to @AelyryaPayne Glad I got to know someone new on this platform.
@tarrien any specific hashtags that we should know of to support / follow?
@tarrien yes!! I’m hoping it’s easier here to gain followers.
@tarrien And define "artist" generously for this purpose, too.
@tarrien Big move and agreed 💜
@tarrien i saw this 3 times in a row cuz everyone boosting it LOL
@tarrien If i had money I would probably commission all the artists I could
@tarrien It's also very important to add hashtags, they literally work like tags in FA or IB, it helps people to find your art
@tarrien hey do you know any good ones that I'm looking for art for my fursona.
@tarrien Is there a good hashtag I can recommend for folks?

@tarrien im posting this from the "other side" as someone who would be very interested to commission artists making physical artwork, like fursuit or mask makers

I dont find anyone active here, so how to commission them?

Just like with a very recent comment here, amazing custom inflatables but only on Twitter
