"The shift illustrates a years-long problem #SouthKorea has thus far failed to reverse. It has both one of the world’s fastest #AgingPopulations and the world’s lowest birth rate, which has been falling continuously since 2015 despite authorities offering financial incentives and housing subsidies for couples with more babies. @Norobiik Japan too. Postmodern society is neither economically nor psychologically suitable for raising a family. Those Asian countries are just a few years ahead of the curve is all.

@mike805 Yup, Japan is in a bad way too. And their foray into robotics for senior health care didn't work either - the human staff ended up having to take care of the robots when they got into trouble.

Just like South Korea, they'll have to bite the bullet and allow foreign health care workers to come in.

@Norobiik The conclusion here may be that societies that concentrate on religion and warfare and "toxic masculinity" are the ones that are still around in 1000 years.

There have been quite a few cultures that decided to retire from all of that and pursue art and philosophy and recreational activities. Those cultures are extinct or headed that way.

I don't want to live in a religion and warfare society any more than the next person. But those seem to be the ones that win out.

@mike805 Just goes to show how screwed up everything is. Why bother to solve your problems and make this a better place when you can pick a fight with some other group or nation to distract everybody from the real issues?

This world needs a hard reset.

@Norobiik A hard reset will just allow biology to dominate. Technology has bought us a break from biological reality, but it doesn't look sustainable. A reset will leave us with culture somewhere between Amish and Afghanistan. Probably closer to the latter. The peacenik nature of Amish only works when you are protected by someone else.
