Trying to come up with a name for a "ZIP, but improved" file format.

GoodZIP - shortens to gzip, oops

BetterZIP - shortens to bzip, also oops

Edit: ok I've picked a name, but it's a secret for now (it's none of the suggestions in this thread!)
maybe just "Regular ZIP" (.rip)
@retr0id what improvements do you propose? it may already be part of the zip format, just not widely implemented. it does a lot of stuff, being an old and crufty format.
@sneak The improvements would be *removing* the cruft
@retr0id then just implement zip without the parts you don't like - if you're careful then existing decompressors should be able to work on your files
@sneak That's precisely the plan.
@retr0id @sneak are you gonna support DOS time format? :)
@retr0id then it sounds like they would still be .zip files.
@sneak Correct!
@retr0id i am so confused then. why do you need .rip?
@sneak ZIP, but improved
@retr0id @sneak at least you could register the most appropriate domain name

Improved.zip
@retr0id @sneak
