I recently got an Anycubic Photon M3 for printing out terrain pieces but I've been churning out a bunch of STLs I got in a patreon two years back and I *adore* these Gnolls.
I printed them at a 15 micron layer height so they take about 4-6 hours per batch but they're almost indistinguishable from plastic and the level of detail might surpass that of some of the new Games Workshop plastics.
@majorthrill They are astonishing.
@markdennehy The photo doesn't capture it well but there's subtle fur texture on the skin. You can see individual teeth! It blows my mind that churning this out in a few hours on an entry level device was unthinkable so recently.
@majorthrill Given how used I am to an ender 3, it's *still* mindblowing :D
@majorthrill I’ve been wondering - after the relative fiasco of my Creality Ender 6 - if I should get a newer, smaller filament printer, or a resin printer. I keep seeing these amazingly detailed results and getting tempted.
@kevinteljeur Ultimately it'll depend on what you're using the print for. If it's going to sit on a shelf looking pretty then absolutely go with resin. If it's more functional then resin is useless. I have both types but I definitely get more use from the resin one and Brid got way more out of the FDM since her stuff would end up outdoors or was more utilitarian.
@kevinteljeur Also I got great use out of the FDM one in the early days of the pandemic printing out masks in the days when PPE were scarce and I could chop one disposable mask into six pieces and get six uses out of it so there's arguments for both.
@majorthrill
This is all one piece printed? Goodness!
@Homebrewandhacking Hands/Weapons, body and base are separate pieces and there's a few different weapon options but the assembly is trivial - a dot of superglue on each wrist, the hands have ball sockets and slot nicely in. The makers are pretty consistently great https://www.myminifactory.com/object/3d-print-bonegnasher-gnolls-complete-set-30-192443
