Just venting and whining. Tried to string up a simple dipole this morning and after 2 hours of futzing realized my solder joint was broken on one leg and can’t seem to get it to stick again. Just feeling frustrated right now.
@KI5FGS 100% understand.
@abraxas3d thanks, I appreciate that. I know we’ve likely all been there and tomorrow is another day. Anyway enough radio for today.

@KI5FGS @abraxas3d The best thing about a hobby is being able to put it down when you’re frustrated.

It’ll all be there tomorrow and you’ll get it going.

@abraxas3d @KC8JC thank you. I appreciate the encouragement

Not sure it helps you: When things don't work, I sometimes comfort myself with the thought: If everything worked on first try, it wouldn't be quite as much fun if things finally do work.

I've "enjoyed" my share of connections that should have been there but weren't. Both riding trains and in antenna work.

@KI5FGS @abraxas3d @KC8JC

@dj3ei @KC8JC @abraxas3d excellent observation, I appreciate the encouragement and reminder to have a healthy perspective
@KI5FGS Duck tape!
@MM0INH love it! My tool box only has 2 items, a can of WD40, for when it doesn’t move and it’s supposed to, and duct tape for when it moves and isn’t supposed to.
@KI5FGS All anyone needs...well, some cable / zip ties for the professional.
@KI5FGS at field day this year I showed up a little late and the crew was trying to use a antenna they hadn’t tuned. They were big frustrated. I scrambled up a ladder and got to work. Chatting with some newish hams I said something like “this is what I love about this hobby, it doesn’t work out of the box! You gotta learn how it all works.” They didn’t say much but I could see the wheels turning. I say this to you… all that futzing is time well spent as long as you learn. Enjoy and keep it up!
@KI5FGS I use mechanical connections with banana plug-BNC adapters, so easy to use and fix!
@M0KHR yeah, they definitely are easier to use, I was just trying to throw something up with bits and bobs I already had. I may just break down and order some more.
