@darth_akeda @ablackcatstail @nshady @BlackAzizAnansi Disagree. They will fork the code to build hooks into #Meta platforms and anyone here looking to build an audience will need to participate in the much larger #Threads universe in order to grow.
@JohnMFlores
Why do you assume the #Threads user base will be larger?

Not only are there 2.3B Instagram users, but it appears they have a fast and SIMPLE (something Mastodon to date does not have) means of getting said users on Threads.

See my separate comment.
It's not clear to me that Threads has anything to offer to most Insta users, & having to install a new app to use it still entails friction.
I think y'all should consider the possibility this thing is gonna fail at least as hard as most Meta projects fail. Though maybe not as hard as the Metaverse.
@JohnMFlores @darth_akeda @ablackcatstail @nshady @BlackAzizAnansi

@FeralRobots

That's a possibility but this is why I don't think that will happen:

They are avoiding the early adopter observation, "I'm here! Where's everyone else?" by seeding #Threads with already existing #Fediverse content. Slow adoption doomed Google+. #Threads won't have that problem.

One way to cripple Threads chances of success is to defederate them now so that they don't have a pre-installed base of content.

You're right that the Metaverse has flopped, but that was contingent upon people buying headsets. That's a big hurdle.

Meta has had great success with Marketplace and Groups recently too. As long as they can minimize the friction from Insta to Threads, they'll get a lot of people willing to give it a try. Many of them are probably Twitter users too and willing to check out an alternative.
