It might be my old habits from my $50 budget commander days but a local store is running $100 budget commander night and I’m thinking. Is ‘budget’ 100 bucks? #mtg #magicthegathering
@pharmacistjudge Hobby has gotten expensive as all things have and people have little patience digging thru commons boxes
@Sparktrog I just remember agonizing if Sol Ring at $4 was worth it at 8% of my decks budget.

@Sparktrog @pharmacistjudge

The hobby has gotten more expensive but the main issue is that the average power level of some random EDH deck on the other side of the table is higher. Back in the early days of EDH you were basically playing a pile of random cards which were not good enough to make it into competitive decks.

Unfortunately in EDH the good threats cost (in dollars) way less than the good answers so it is tough to stop high power decks on a budget.

@pharmacistjudge

$10 Ultra-Pauper Commander is where all the cool kids hang out these days.

@tapandrollgames $25 was rough enough. I’m not sure if I can do $10

@pharmacistjudge

$10 is the same as $100; it just curves out one turn slower. 🤷

@pharmacistjudge unfortunately for magic these days, $100 is a pauper deck lol
@pharmacistjudge more budget than the average edh deck but still not really a budget deck in my opinion.
@pharmacistjudge yeah that's budget. That's a precon with a couple upgrades.
$50 limit is pauper commander
@pharmacistjudge I feel that Budget ist below 50 $. There is no way you don´t put all the staples in your deck if you have 100 $ to spend...
@pharmacistjudge this is really difficult to say I got in the habit last winter of building 25€ budget decks which would be similar to 50 usd since cards are a little more expensive on that side of the ocean. However if I would double the budget I can get some pretty busted cards into my decks. Btw. It’s always fun to build slicer on a budget.
