@WeavingWithAI On the website: click on the hashtag, then click on the icon of the figure with the + next to it in the top right corner.
It will be similar in apps, but might look slightly different.
You can find a lot of questions answered on fedi.tips
@WeavingWithAI that s good question and i can only answer part of it. On a desktop you can search for a hashtag and after you click it to browse there's as follow button. The trunks.social app has a similar function when you search for a hashtag only more obvious.
For the official mastodon app i don't know, just tried and couldn't figure it out.
Any hashtags followed will show up on your tl like any other post
@WeavingWithAI @godlessmom On the iPad using the Ivory App you can press on a hashtag you find interesting and a pop-up appears where you can choose to follow the hashtag (or unfollow, if you already followed it).
You can also search for hashtags to find posts with them.
Hope it helps.
@godlessmom Use lists to organise your feed.
And test a lot of clients to find out which one is best for you!
@godlessmom The key feature is having three flavors of feed. There are the people you follow, which is like the birdsite but without all the promoted garbage. Just the people YOU want to see.
Then there is the local feed, everyone on your particular instance that you joined, which is why it's fun to join an instance with a special interest (ham radio in my case). You can even join more than one, so you get a choice of "local" feeds.
Then you've got the federated feed. This is the firehose.
If youโre still thoroughly confused, Iโd highly recommend following @feditips โ and perusing their website. Helps to give you a quick start guide to this environment. I found them super helpful when I was getting started here. Iโm happy to help too โ I think most of us are!
Hey there, thanks for the mention :)
If you're feeling totally lost on here, I'd recommend watching this video: https://tilvids.com/w/wx2iLhD3pTipbKFJKLyx5t
I've got a website for beginners at https://fedi.tips and if there's something specific you want help with just ask.

That's exactly what I did๐คฃ My feed has been exceptional because of it๐
@godlessmom
_We_ are the algorithm. Boosts, replies and favourites make posts appear in trending.
When we # posts, #Hashtag_Lore say, we let other people find it, alas not across all servers.
When we boost, people in our timezone see it.
When we reply, people may see an interesting conversation and stick their nose in.
And liking is a trend push and also is nice to get. "Good Post!"
There are boost groups too like @noun @a.gup.pe (no space) which boost anything they're tagged in!
I donโt know how to follow a hashtag. Iโd like to tho!
Just a minor point โ
Mastodon does have an algorithm. See:

But I'm guessing by "algorithm" you mean "recommendation-engine". As in โ
... This is not Twitter; there is no recommendation-engine, ...
@godlessmom as a recent Twitter refugee I highly recommend this lovely tool to find people to follow here!
