Courtney Heard 🇨🇦If there was one piece of advice I could give to new Mastodon users who are finding their feeds quiet or boring, it is to follow as many people and hashtags as you can. This is not Twitter; there is no algorithm, it is not going to fill your feed with stuff it thinks you like. You have to curate it yourself. Anja Schillhaneck@godlessmom what I find most amazing is that there are/were actually people relying on that algorithm on Twitter to push anything upon them they did not actively ask for.
Godless Hedgehog@Maristya @godlessmom Yeah, I don’t understand this at all. There’s that stupid “For You” tab over there, but why anyone would use it is beyond me.
Gustavo@assembledatoms @Maristya @godlessmom The reason that made me switch to Mastodon was that Twitter started pushing aggressively this tab! And their suggestions were terrible, ranging from "let me guess what you like from your IP" to scams and spam.
@qgustavor @Maristya @godlessmom Yeah, it would switch to “for you” from time to time on me, but I always noticed immediately and switched it back. Idk why anyone would intentionally leave it there.
