Seems like a good day (in #Canada, at least) to talk about non-Google search engines.

I've been using Kagi -- https://kagi.com/ -- for a while and find it quite useful so far. Haven't hit my free limit though and wondering if it's worth paying for.

Any other #SearchEngine suggestions or tips out there?

Kagi Search - A Premium Search Engine

Better search results with no ads. Welcome to Kagi (pronounced kah-gee), a paid search engine that gives power back to the user.

@robsonfletcher I feel like this is maybe too basic a suggestion lol, but duckduckgo, serx, and qwant are my go tos. Rarely do I need to use something other than duckduckgo though.
@robsonfletcher i use ecosia. They plant trees. And apparently the tree planting is legit, as i heard about it from a trusted source (how to save a planet podcast).
@robsonfletcher
I'm currently using @StartpageSearch and I'm pretty happy with it.
It has ads (BUT you can deactivate them).
Maybe the UI could be improved, but the results are exactly what you are looking for. Not like Google right now.
One thing I'm missing is a native app with a search bar on my home screen, I don't like the idea of opening the browser to use it on my phone.
On my laptop, it works perfectly. I replaced Google with StartPage, and I don't feel the will to go back.
I hope it helps! ✌️
@robsonfletcher Giving it a try! I love the idea of not supporting google.
@robsonfletcher I have been using DuckDuckGo for about a decade IIRC. It’s backed by Bing, so we’ll see if Microsoft is willing to pay the link tax.
@robsonfletcher DuckDuckGo anonymizes your information and feeds your search to Bing. I’ve been using it for about a year.
@robsonfletcher this is good info, while I suspect the Canadian Mastodon population is small we can actively boycott google and Facebook. GO CANADA GO
@robsonfletcher DuckDuckGo on Brave browser is a good combo. I've never heard of Kagi or seen any traffic from it when reviewing stats for my clients sites.
@robsonfletcher try you.com pretty good ai built in and has nice programming focused searches
