I know I'm a broken record, but I'm going to keep on saying it - your campfire and fireworks this weekend are not worth the chance of starting a fire in these conditions. It's hot, it's dry, it's windy, and the gorge is already burning.

Wildfire leads to evacuations near Underwood, Washington, as structures burn

A rapidly moving wildfire led to evacuations Sunday near Underwood, Washington, in the Columbia River Gorge.

@ianrosewrites I'm in north Washington in the woods, and there's a subset of people who feel like it's their god-given right to set off fireworks and shoot guns wherever they want. :/
@ianrosewrites @Toastie
Thank you for saying it; I'm glad to boost.
@ianrosewrites It's a warning worthy of repeating, IMHO.
@ianrosewrites yep, I hate winds during Independence Day Weekend. People donโ€™t actually get it, maybe, till itโ€™s their home thatโ€™s in danger. Was at one of our (two) locally-owned hardware stores #Today, and the owner and I got to talking about the wind and #Wildfires. He has family near Estacada who lost EVERYTHING in the Labor Day Fires. Even the metal roof was gone. Folks, itโ€™s not worth it, to #FAFO with #Fire.

@ianrosewrites

Even cities aren't safe. In Scottdale, 2 houses burned, and 4 were damaged as embers lit new fires right in front of the firemen and camera crews.

@ianrosewrites not to mention the dozen other reasons not to set off fireworks in the first place. I love professional fireworks but living with an autistic partner with sound sensitivity and PTSD has been eye opening.

@ianrosewrites Instead, have a plan for if you need to evacuate. List all the things to be put in the car - valuables, changes of clothes, pets and pet food, drinking water, important documents.

Evacuate *earlier* than you think you need to. Firefighters may not even come to your street.

Be safe.

@ianrosewrites Was camping this weekend at Wanapum Recreation Area in Vantage WA. WA State Parks banned wood campfires and charcoal grills. Propane grills and fire pits were allowed, though.
@ianrosewrites thank you for these wise words!
@ianrosewrites Think of the poor pets, too! ๐Ÿˆ ๐Ÿ•
@ianrosewrites sad that this even needs to be said.
@ianrosewrites i wish theyd just completely ban them and field burning already.
@ianrosewrites and they still don't care *shakes head*
