Coming soon: StackOverflow premium

@nixCraft driving through SF yesterday I saw a couple of billboards claiming to use "AI" for instantaneously responding to half of all support requests.

No promises that the responses were solutions!

The brazenness of such things, and the companies that might give them (remaining unnamed because they don't even deserve the bad publicity level of name recognition) business only to presumably, predictably, destroy their users' trust would be harrowing if I weren't already so jaded by the terrible aspects of the Bay Area.

Heck, there's still at least one freeway visible billboard for some chat on a block chain web3 company too!

The dystopia writes itself here. ;(

@nixCraft if Stack Overflow blocks global public search without login, half of us would lose our jobs because we can't read man pages and figure out our own problems.
@phaysis @nixCraft haha. Then we'd revert to what we have always done, spend 6 hours debugging in order.ro save 5 mins reading the man pages
@nixCraft Nonononono do not give them ideas.
@nixCraft quick we need to make a federated version of SO before it gets enshitified too!
@nixCraft
I shouldn't but I'm laughing sooooo hard 🤣🤣🤣
@nixCraft I hate the modern internet. People ruin everything
@nixCraft
There's a real scary thought.
@nixCraft StackOverflow premium would certainly be full circle. Then the users that generate the content for the user-generated content platform flock to a new, friendlier platform and SO quietly goes the way of EE, rebooting the cycle.
