Hey new people! Do you want to discover accounts to follow on here?

I list interesting accounts on a range of topics, with "picks of the day" posts and a site full of categories at:

➑️ https://fedi.directory

To follow an account from the website, just copy and paste its Fediverse address into the search box on Mastodon etc. This will make its profile appear, where you can click "Follow".

Alternatively, check out Trunk (https://communitywiki.org/trunk) and Fediverse.info (https://fediverse.info/explore/people)

@FediFollows to cater for all needs and preferences, if someone is looking for utterly uninteresting accounts, feel free to recommend mine.

There is server's list on https://joinmastodon.org/servers also

@raulmagdalena

Fedi.directory isn't a server list, it's a list of accounts to follow :)

I think you mean my other account @FediGarden and https://fedi.garden?

Highlighting nice servers on Mastodon and the Fediverse

@FediFollows @raulmagdalena @FediGarden what's the difference between an account and a server? I'm struggling with terminology. Looking at the links above this comment - are they all accounts on different servers? How is it possible that different servers can be seen by me if I'm not on those servers (I think mine is mastodon.social and my account is Moodre).

@Moodre @raulmagdalena

Your server is mastodon.social, and your account is Moodre.

I'm on a different server, but both of our servers talk to each other, so we are able to have this conversation.

It's like with phones, you can call someone else even if they're on a different phone network provider, even if they're in a different country, because the providers all talk to each other.

@FediFollows great listing and idea! … one question though, why there is photography category if there are separate categories like eg landscape or architecture?

@TomaszSusul

Not all landscape is photography, there's also landscape painting etc. The categories reflect the kind of accounts listed.

@FediFollows thanks very much, I've added a few from this list. I'm new here, can anyone see this message in the comments under the post? Or is it visible only to the poster? Or, is it visible only to those subscribed to the poster?

@Moodre

It depends what visibility you're using when you do a post or reply.

There's a guide to this at https://fedi.tips/who-can-see-my-posts-in-mastodon-how-do-i-send-dms-in-mastodon/

The reply you just did was in public visibility mode, so everyone can see it.

@FediFollows thanks mate πŸ‘
@FediFollows
Thanks for the tips, is there a category for Sport listed elsewhere at all?

@DMH19

On my own site there's https://fedi.directory/tag/sport/ for spectator sport and https://fedi.directory/tag/sport-and-fitness/ for grassroots sport and fitness.

On Fediverse.info there are many sport related tags, if you search for sport on the search box you'll see them all suggested. For example https://fediverse.info/explore/people?t=sports

Bear in mind Fediverse.info is more about personal accounts that post on lots of topics, and my site is about accounts that tend to focus on a small number of topics.
