With all the “social media” platforms failing the last couple of days, it makes me wonder if there’s some larger plan going on or if these billionaires are really this out of touch with the users. Is the fediverse capable of adopting so many people at once? My concern is that the fediverse doesn’t have enough content creators to keep the social media orphans coming back. #fediverse #socialmedia #twitterdown
@untrainedtribble I think they sadly ARE that out of touch. There are a lot of NPD types parading around ruining their own companies at the moment. Definitely interesting to watch though. 🤷‍♂️

@untrainedtribble If they wanted us to all use decentralized content, they would've done it themselves.

I agree with you tho. Its gonna be much harder to get major content creators on board but its all in due time. More common people move here, the more likely major content creators will move over. As far as we know though, lets let a new generation of content creators come onto the scene here. Its a perfect opportunity for them to shine

@untrainedtribble Lack of content is definitely one issue I've noticed. Another one is funding, running servers is not cheap, and donations can only go so far. What is the monetization model for the fediverse?
@damian_anslik very good point! I’m brand new to the #fediverse but it reminds me of the technology used in #endersgame which I always thought would be the best future for online communication. No ads, no prerogative by some overlord to push agendas. Just free and open communication. The only thing this place seems to be lacking for new users are subject categories to find content which is where #reddit really excels to build community
@untrainedtribble the difference is, the fediverse will still be here growing and growing even if a lot of people bounce in then out. The fediverse doesn’t have quarterly shareholder meetings with hedge fund mangers breathing down their necks. We know what that does to social media platforms, FB, Twitter, Reddit…sooo
@untrainedtribble When Musk took over #twitter , I remember a friend of mine speculating if it could just be the powerful ruling class elites making sure that the free flow of info stopped for good. Really struck a chord. Now a couple of months later, we have #twitterdown . 🤷‍♂️
@untrainedtribble
I think it's a mix of that, and that sweet venture capitalist money or cheap debt drying up. These companies that got their start on that can no longer continue to never make a profit anymore. Those days are over. I'm sure more of these companies will follow suit.
