I saw #indianajones yesterday, and I have no idea what the sniffy reviews are all about. I thought it pretty perfectly captured the "it's daft, but we're going with it" energy of the first 3 movies, and was an absolute blast.

Stupid? Undoubtedly.
Ridiculous? Absolutely.
Exactly what you'd expect from an Indiana Jones movie? 100%

Also: I love that Harrison Ford makes no attempt at not being 80. He's 80 running after bad guys. He's 80 climbing cliffs. He's even 80 in his underpants. Bravo.

* will see it when I can

@RussInCheshire buzzing to see it. Love those films. And nice to have an 80 year old hero.
@RussInCheshire The issue I have with it is that it is a film that didn't really have to be made. Agree with your points though. Not seen anyone really talk about Phoebe waller-bridge performance as I think she stole the show. Never watched fleebag so it might have been more a surprise to me than most. Ending makes the film better but it is a v slow burn at the beginning. #indianajones
@wwljo No movie HAS to be made, but yeah, she was great as his sidekick/foil. Fleabag is simply astonishing. Two absolutely perfect series. Extremely highly recommended
@RussInCheshire yea missed it the first time around and kinda forgot about it. Next 2 films I'm really looking forward to is Barbie and Oppenheimer. Also with the Misson impossible it's a good month for movies in July.
@RussInCheshire The housemate and friends are going to see it on Tuesday. I'd have gone to see it with them but am dogsitting.

@RussInCheshire Yeah, I liked it. I think maybe the reviews are just to do with the slightly melancholy mood of it.

(Apolgies for replying to wrong tweet before; still getting used to my mastodon client; trying a few different ones out)

@RussInCheshire Thanks Russ, I'll put it on my 'To See' list!
@RussInCheshire don't you wish though that they'd just quit when they're at the top of their game ?
@RussInCheshire Loved seeing him kill all the nazis. Just like the first movie.
@RussInCheshire I’ve just come out of the cinema having watched this.
It’s brilliant fun and cheesy in all the right places
@RussInCheshire you’ve sold it to me, I shall go to see it this week
@RussInCheshire I thought it was a bit slow & lacking in humour. Also thought Helena was a pretty unpleasant character but it was still fun night out.
@RussInCheshire
Just seen it. Good film, great escapism.
@RussInCheshire I went hoping to like it, I didn't expect to love it! Phoebe Waller-Bridge was excellent and it's cracking entertainment. It signposted its daftness early and so when it happened I was like cool (unlike Crsytal Skull). Definitely better than Temple of Doom as well. And it had genuine emotion.
