More thoughts on this moment, & the #Meta and #Project92 debate...including three traits I think the moment calls for from both sides:

➡️ #humility
➡️ #empathy
and
➡️ #community ...

All three are needed now more than ever as we suss this out.

Meta and the Fediverse ("First Time, Part 3)

The strum and drang of the conversation of Meta joining the Fediverse continue at it’s wild and intense pace: See this: netwars.pelicancrossing.net/2023/06/3… And to me, for the most part, that is a good thing, this is a big deal and we as a fediverse family should suss it out. We have had big turns in the road before - and we sussed it out over time. We will again when the next bigtech go adopts ActivtyPub.

@tchambers I agree that the “maximal defed” group is probably out the door anyway. The only way I see it working is through a shared whitelist that requires validation and synchronization across multiple servers—all using the same whitelist.

But at that point, why use ActivityPub? Why not migrate over to a protocol (Zot? Diaspora? XMPP?) that Meta doesn’t use? It would save themselves so much pain and hassle.
@Chris Trottier @Tim Chambers I wouldn't be surprised if not few of them still believed that ActivityPub is the only protocol in the Fediverse.

Or they absolutely want to stay on their platform for some reasons.

Or maybe they think it isn't worth it because the Zot/Nomad parts of the Fediverse are already tainted by Hubzilla hubs and (streams) instances that haven't announced to defederate all of Meta as soon as it appears. So even retreating to Hubzilla hubs with Pubcrawl deactivated hub-wide wouldn't make a difference anyway.

@tchambers @fediversereport @fediversenews @spreadmastodon @fediverseobserver @mastodonmigration There's been so much discussion about #project92 but do we have any timelines on when it's actually going to be launched? Feels like just the anticipation itself is promoting a lot of hypothetical speculation.
