@grant What sort of range are you getting?

With mine, depending on the direction, obstructions etc I get to about 160nm

@peter right now it says 38nm. The antenna is inside in my garage right now. And it's also the cheap one that came with the rtl-sdr. I need to mount it outside and possibly replace it with a better one.

@grant I got a proper one which is 1.2m from Pimoroni.

It's currently in the loft/attic - I should get that up on the roof at some point myself

@peter @grant From all of the antennas i tried so far, this one got the best reception. Unfortunately i don't have access to the roof.

@Patrick @grant the tin can is probably helping it as it's providing a ground plane for the antenna

@peter @grant 🤔 hmm, i just removed the can in order get an idea of how much of difference it makes and my message rate raised from around 365/sec to 410/sec, range seemed to increase as well a bit .... maybe i should ditch the can.

@Patrick @grant interesting it reduced it rather than improve it - might be something with the size of the can and the ADSB frequency.

@peter @grant strange. I clearly remember it improved reception when i installed it first time. anyway .... it's a never ending project! :-)
