Welcome, Stitcher users!

I started Overcast ten years ago in large part because I was afraid of Stitcher taking over the market with its proprietary walled garden (which was even more walled at the time, and was gaining significant traction).

I wanted to ensure that the open world of podcasting survived and thrived, even when faced with strong proprietary threats.

The names and players have changed since then, and the battle continues, but open podcasting remains dominant and healthy today.

@overcastfm Wow. What will happen to the content of those who used Stitcher? We didn't choose them but I'm still curious.
@fulanigirl @overcastfm Purely from observation, the (partly-)Stitcher podcasts I follow seem to be retaining/regaining ownership of the formerly paywalled catalog.
@Fpccraig @overcastfm I guess they then have to find a way to archive it somewhere accessible. I worry about this kind of thing because our podcast provider was purchased by Spotify...and they make me very nervous.
@fulanigirl @overcastfm Yeah, quite. And I have conflicted feelings for the folks left in the lurch by companies whose intent was/is to exploit and/or destroy an open ecosystem.
