maiamaia@BathysphereHat years ago on Blind Date, the couple won a holiday at a learn to swim centre, where they began by sitting in front of a washing-up tub full of water on a table. They had to practise putting their heads into the water until they were comfortable with it. Only then did they go in the pool. I was a child, I copied this to learn to swim, yet everyone I've told this too has not heard of it before. It really works:)

Does the Autistic child actually want to learn to swim?
We had an enthusiastic swim teacher who gave my kids private lessons, her motto 'I can teach ANYONE to swim'.
Except she couldn't teach one of my kids, it was bad for everyone.
Now my child is older they would love to learn, but they were too young at the time.
I wish I had stopped lessons as soon as it was clear it wasn't fun, no amount of strategies worked.
