@nixCraft super common in job ads though sadly. All looking for that elusive unicorn, the good dev who also has a deep love of infrastructure and ops, as well as ability to address those concerns.
@bobthomson70 @nixCraft it's also common for those ads to require 5 years of experience on a 2-3 years old framework.

@Ash_Crow @bobthomson70 @nixCraft

I remember seeing some of those ads for Java programmers looking for JVM experience.

Chatting OTR with a couple of the HR people at one conference, and found out there was someone specific that they were trying to recruit.

@nixCraft @BillySmith @Ash_Crow 27 years of contract work, nothing surprises me in recruitment any more :) Always so much nonsense in it.

@bobthomson70 @nixCraft @Ash_Crow

Sometimes it's someone they are already employing on contract, but they are legally required to advertise the position.

Sometimes it's aimed at someone that they want to poach from another company. :D

@BillySmith @bobthomson70 @nixCraft @Ash_Crow

I mean, I don't have high expectations of a lot of bureaucratic systems - so "10 years of experience with a technology that is only 5 years old" seems totally plausible.

But yeah - "we want this person and are willing to look stupid to get them" also makes a lot of sense. Hadn't thought of that.

Thanks.

@Ash_Crow @bobthomson70 @nixCraft I heard tell of a company interviewing the very creator of the technology requiring 5 years of experience and the creator literally said, "I should know. I created the technology and it hasn't been around that long."
@nixCraft having one from each line is in fact super common. For today's projects you'll need back- frontend, database, SCM und such. When it comes to docker for the local workflow, some Linux knowledge will also come handy.
@nixCraft
And the salary is entire IT department’s amount? … *silence* /s

@nixCraft turns out I'm a whole IT department. Who knew?

In fairness I have almost 30 years experience and would never take this role because you know there's some duct-tape unicorns in that stack that nobody will ever prioritize.

@nixCraft Unfortunately in the Era of companies firing 80% of the company this and higher asks are common even for entry level positions
@nixCraft
As more and more corporations try to extract the maximum work with minimal pay... if they do find that poor sap, they better pay him like an IT department.
@nixCraft EXACTLY! It's like head hunters (I mean "recruiters") looking for these pink elephants - people with a laundry list of esoteric skills and years of experience.
@nixCraft AI will take care of it.
@nixCraft Those are different frameworks. It's more than an IT team. It's like multiple teams. Usually teams settle on one front end framework, one technology for backend, etc. React and angular are both front end. Although there are devs who might have worked with these technologies, it might be over several projects with several teams over a long period of time.
@nixCraft Not all of these exact technologies, but I guess I am a whole IT department. Also design, ux, game design/dev, and a published novelist. And a Game Master. And a team lead. I may be too many things…
@nixCraft Don't forget customer support, CMS, metrics for management... and first class professional certifications for all.
@nixCraft If you just had entry level on each item, how long would it take you? 3-6 months each = 18*3= 4.5 - 9 yrs
@nixCraft I've got that covered, but I'm an elder nerd and that's going to cost.
@nixCraft wage: $15/hour after trial project
@nixCraft “full stack developer”

@nixCraft can we switch PostgreSQL with MariaDB? I really do not want to touch that again.

What about Ruby?

@nixCraft It would be nice if technical recruiters were actually technical and not trying to overwork anomalys / wizards
@nixCraft My favorite is when they ask for something super niche that the company definitely has a single person in charge of doing, on top of another super niche thing the company has one specific person doing.
@nixCraft I will say nope to Java unless 5k and more is involved. No one should suffer for CEO decisions long time ago.
@nixCraft That's not a full-stack developer. That's a Sales Engineer.
@nixCraft I CAN do all these things. I won't do PHP, Angular, or K8s 🤣. @ghorwood
@nixCraft @dgold I usually consider my qualifications good enough to apply if I have three of them 🤣
