Now playing: Monsieur's Hulot's Holiday

I couldn't think of a better way to ring in the first day of summer than with the perfect vacation movie!

This movie is so near and dear to my heart, y'all. Third-favorite movie behind the original Night of the Living Dead and Jaws!

It's a movie that I would encourage everyone to give a shot, especially with it being on HBO Max and the Criterion Channel.

I'll be humming the main theme for *days.* And that's a really good thing, that. No complaints here!

@optiMSTie Found it on Kanopy, the film app tied to our local library. Thanks for the recommendation.

@mwestley

Oh, wonderful! I truly hope you enjoy it!

It's not a rip-roaring comedy, but a pleasant comedy of nostalgia, warmth, and feeling. It's like a warm hug in movie form.

I actually blind-bought it years ago because I loved the DVD art pictured below (side note: that's generally a terrible way to buy movies), but... I fell in love with the movie.

And then I had to track down the rest of Tati's films, and I came to love those as well.

Anywho, enjoy, and happy viewing!

@optiMSTie I did enjoy it. I have to think Rowan Atkinson watched this film, essentially it’s a French Mr Bean even including a comedic car.

@mwestley

Oh, most excellent, so glad you enjoyed that, then! :D

And aye, there's a *lot* of Monsieur Hulot's DNA that can be found in Mr. Bean's bones.

@mwestley @optiMSTie indeed, Atkinson named Hulot/Tati as a huge inspiration, several times. He did make Mr Bean more grumpy, a contrast to Hulot.
@IngridHbn @optiMSTie Mr Bean also has a bit of a mean streak.

@mwestley @IngridHbn

Yeah, that always got to me. I *like* the Mr. Bean shorts, but he could get vindictive, and... oof.

Hulot never really gets in that vein.

@optiMSTie @mwestley well observed :)

@IngridHbn

Thank ya kindly, aye!

And thank YOU for all your Tati enthusiasm!

@optiMSTie most welcome - we can never see too much of #jacquestati
