Hunter Biden has actually been a very useful case study for the difference in this country between the right and the left.

I’ve never heard anyone in my liberal circles suggest he shouldn’t be investigated and prosecuted if there’s evidence of wrongdoing. Joe Biden hasn’t blathered endlessly about political witch hunts, hasn’t insulted and attacked everyone involved in the process, and won’t make this a violence-inducing talking point at cultish campaign rallies. Because we’d think that’s nuts.

@Holberg Because liberals still think the truth has value I guess. I feel sorry for Hunter Biden. Losing his mother and sister suddenly and at a tender age. Losing his brother to cancer. Having a very famous parent. Addiction. Divorce. Harangued by right-wing nut jobs. It sounds like a lot.
@Lundemo Total agreement. I can’t imagine what it’s like when you’re already struggling with life and now you get to be the media-driven bogeyman for conspiracy kooks and angry fascists. Still think it’s fine that he’s held to account—but back to your first point, truth still matters.
@Holberg @Lundemo Totally agree. They’ve basically not been able to back up all their crazy far right wing accusations, and are being forced to settle for the guy pleading guilty and being accountable to things he did quite literally in his darkest hour. It enrages the right, who will undoubtedly whinge and cry foul, and keep trying to come at him, and to us, it just feels sad. Even the pre trial agreement seems somehow reluctant.
@Holberg Exactly. He appears to be getting the kind of plea deal anyone else would get, and he's going to be held responsible. That's...exactly what should happen.

@Holberg

All I want to know abut Hunter Biden's taxes is why isn't Jared in jail for getting 2 billion from the Saudis

@Holberg @strangetikigod of course, if he committed crimes, he should be punished. That’s the way the law works, but apparently not for Republicans.
@gedeonm @Holberg @strangetikigod to liberals, breaking the law makes you a criminal. To conservatives, being a criminal makes you break the law, and if a good white conservative breaks the law it must be the law that is in error.
@Holberg And also, Hunter Biden isn't the president. If he goes to jail (lawyers say unlikely), the democrats won't be all OMG OUR PRESIDENT IS IN JAIL.

@Holberg

Google "Hunter Biden in Arkansas" to see Plan B (from several sources) for embarrassing the Biden's if Burisma and Hunters Laptop fails to do the trick. They are trying to put him in an Arkansas jail next court hearing coming up in July, contempt of court for not providing enough financial records in a child support hearing. This one is flying low under the radar.

@Holberg Exactly. But try telling a Republican any of that, and they'll simply deny doing it, and lie their asses off about it.

Because that's what they're good at.

@jimgoodall @Holberg

Yeah, they just say Trump hasn't committed a crime. No matter what evidence you provide, they won't believe it. Right now, 30% of the country is absolutely convinced this tax issue is a huge scandal and a much more serious crime than Trump stealing state secrets.

I give people one chance and if they refuse to accept reality, I will never communicate with them again (both online or in real life). They need professional deprogramming and that's can't come from me.

@Mxhrad @Holberg I know what you mean. It's entirely pointless to debate with somebody who refuses to recognize the truth. I've dropped friends who are incapable of accepting reality. They think their version of Faux News truth is completely real. It's so bizarre.
@Holberg And who does the media seek out for their opinion on Hunter Biden’s plea deal? Hint - it’s not liberals.
@Holberg To be fair, Trumpers think Trump *has been* thoroughly investigated and not punished at all, so he's clearly innocent and it's all a witch hunt. You can see why they'd think that. It's mostly because Trumpers get their info from the upside-down conservative propaganda matrix and partly because our system of justice is elitist and unprepared to deal with a rabid exploiter like Trump.

@Holberg

The other major difference is that Hunter actually got investigated, meanwhile Jared got $2 billion from the Saudis and no one knows why.

@Holberg Plus Hunter Biden cooperated with authorities, admitted what he did was wrong and paid his taxes. Nevermind the fact that these charges are almost never brought against anyone, making this much more of a witch hunt than anything Former President Trump cries about. Let's also not forget that this all happened under the special prosecutor appointed by former President Trump and left in place by President Biden. It's hard to imagine former President Trump leaving the current special prosecutor in place if he were to be reelected. So much for President Biden weaponizing the DOJ and acting like a 3rd world dictator.
@Holberg
Biden considers it a personal family matter so doesn't want to talk much about it in public.
@Holberg And he's pleading guilty.
