'two in five Americans think a civil war is at least somewhat likely within the next decade. The number who think violence would be justified to restore Mr Trump to the White House has fallen since last year, but still stands at 12 million. An increasingly divided country ... well armed, with almost 400m ... guns; their owners are disproportionately white, male and Republican.'

The Guardian view on Trump and political violence: more than words

Editorial: Though extremist groups are under renewed pressure, the threat they pose has not disappeared

@wellingtonrock So, up to 17 percent of adult white U.S. men — nearly 1 in 5 — are considering using violence to put Trump back in power, and most of those religiously motivated fanatics own several guns?🤔If that‘s true, the U.S. is in danger, which means humankind is in danger, because the Bible’s Revelation predicts that when pseudo-Christian tyrants topple U.S. democracy, then Antichrist will destroy most of the planet. This Atheist prays that you are wrong...
@wellingtonrock I support your right to believe or disbelieve in God, your right to pray or not, and your right to make your own decisions in life. Jesus promoted such rights, saying, “My kingdom is not of this world” & “Render to Caesar what’s Caesar’s, and to God what’s God’s.” Bible, John 18:36/Mark 12:17. But Jesus predicted many of his followers would be deceived by false prophets who will spread violent tyranny. The Crusades, Holocaust & January 6, 2021 foreshadow that.
@wellingtonrock Nonetheless, sensible people of all faiths — and sensible people with no faith — should stand united against authoritarianism, against bigotry, against ultra-nationalism, and against all sectarian, racist and sexist violence. My atheist friend @Alan and I are in lockstep agreement on issues like that, and also on the need to keep church and state separate.
