'two in five Americans think a civil war is at least somewhat likely within the next decade. The number who think violence would be justified to restore Mr Trump to the White House has fallen since last year, but still stands at 12 million. An increasingly divided country ... well armed, with almost 400m ... guns; their owners are disproportionately white, male and Republican.'

The Guardian view on Trump and political violence: more than words

Editorial: Though extremist groups are under renewed pressure, the threat they pose has not disappeared

@wellingtonrock Apparently too many people are not paying attention to Climate Change. Real meaning of Climate Change? EXTINCTION! 5 years? lol
@humansriseup

@wellingtonrock So, up to 17 percent of adult white U.S. men — nearly 1 in 5 — are considering using violence to put Trump back in power, and most of those religiously motivated fanatics own several guns?🤔If that‘s true, the U.S. is in danger, which means humankind is in danger, because the Bible’s Revelation predicts that when pseudo-Christian tyrants topple U.S. democracy, then Antichrist will destroy most of the planet. @wellingtonrock I support your right to believe or disbelieve in God, your right to pray or not, and your right to make your own decisions in life. Jesus promoted such rights, saying, “My kingdom is not of this world” & “Render to Caesar what’s Caesar’s, and to God what’s God’s.” Bible, John 18:36/Mark 12:17. But Jesus predicted many of his followers would be deceived by false prophets who will spread violent tyranny. The Crusades, Holocaust & January 6, 2021 foreshadow that.
@wellingtonrock Nonetheless, sensible people of all faiths — and sensible people with no faith — should stand united against authoritarianism, against bigotry, against ultra-nationalism, and against all sectarian, racist and sexist violence. My atheist friend @Alan and I are in lockstep agreement on issues like that, and also on the need to keep church and state separate. @wellingtonrock Does anybody else find it ironic that one reason Americans rebelled against the British was that George III was mad, yet today 12 million Americans think "violence would be justified to restore Mr Trump to the White House." Mad, indeed! #Trump2024 #FarRightThreat #Fascism

@wellingtonrock
Thanks for posting the link. One of the key sentences in the article for me was this:

“Trumpism would be best understood not as the animating principle of such a conflict, but as a catalyst.”

Believers in a collection of incendiary political ideologies have coalesced under the banner of Trumpism. That bodes ill.

Nevertheless, I consider myself an optimist; that U.S. citizens will ultimately reject extremism and find common ground.

Just like any loudmouth bully, they'll crap their pants and run away when the real U. S. Military starts shooting back! The military has them out-manned, out-gunned and out-smarted.

.

@johnvjones will enough military people avoid Trump's compelling narrative of betrayal to provide a solid core of defense forces against what will be (you're probably correct) pockets of armed insurrection?
