Is there a term for when you can't motivate yourself to work on a task, so you find a side project that's in vaguely the same direction and use the progress from that to get you a little closer to the actual goal?

If not, I propose "tacking":

@nicklockwood "the fight against procrastination"? 🤣
@nicklockwood “toddler bedtiming“
@amonshiz I'm not sure if this is a "parent solidarity" joke or if I'm the toddler in this analogy
@nicklockwood the process you described accurately describes how I get my child to bed. :) the direct approach does not work. Only by thinking laterally do we inch him closer and closer until he is finally in bed and asleep.
@nicklockwood @uliwitness I usually go with productive procrastination, but tacking also works
@nicklockwood literally my night surmised in a single word 😂
@nicklockwood I suggest you know perfectly well what it’s called and all you’re trying to do is reel us into your scheme 🤣
@finestructure I can see the confusion but "reel" is a fishing term whereas "tacking" is about sailing 🙃
@nicklockwood Not taking the bait mate 🤣
@nicklockwood it’s interesting (to me) as I’ve been voicing my newsletter essay from three years ago in a weekly podcast and this weeks episode features a post of yours about motivation
