Yeah. I have two friends who have Covid now and another who just recovered.
It’s NOT OVER.

Someone got close to me at the store to whisper that I did not need to wear my mask bc “COVID is over” Lady, just because you’re done with COVID it does not mean COVID is done with us. #MaskUp #WearAMask

@JeriLRyan thanks for always setting a good example to mask up!
@JeriLRyan I dodged covid in April when my buddy got infected but was asymptomatic for 5 days, during which we rode together to a hiking destination and back. I credit our mask wearing. We may be done with covid, but it's not done with us!
@JeriLRyan I'm keeping my fingers crossed that your friends will be healthy!
@JeriLRyan travel seems especially dangerous. I have 2 or 3 friends who came who came down with it immediately after air travel & one of my husband's colleagues denied he had COVID but several of the staff tested positive for it shortly after he returned from out of state training that left the collegue with "the flu"...including husband, who gave it to everyone here at home. We did fine, but we're all high risk so I was PISSED. only lasting side effect for me? 4 months of sinus headache. Fun!
@JeriLRyan
I caught it on May 21 and spread it to my wife & daughter who has long covid already. I am 80 and got every vaxx they offered; so far so good?
@JeriLRyan my response is that COVID is still the fourth highest killer in the US.
@JeriLRyan I don't think it ever will be, I lost my mom 2 years ago because of complications of having covid,
@Cheryl60 @JeriLRyan I’m sorry for your loss ❤️
@tiamat271 thank you, I did everything I could to keep her safe (she lived with me) one trip to the ER and she got covid, vaccines weren't available yet and people were not taking it seriously, and still aren't
@Cheryl60 You could only do what you could do in those very difficult circumstances. I hope you find peace and comfort. *hugs*
@tiamat271 thank you, means a lot
@tiamat271 thank you, I miss her so much
@JeriLRyan Someone said this to me back in January! I still mask up in public despite the occasional comments.
@JeriLRyan yeah it’s not even close to being over.
@JeriLRyan Definitely not over! Thanks for helping to ensure that message gets out. Meanwhile, I hope your friends recover well, with no nasty long COVID, and that you and yours stay safe and uninfected.

@JeriLRyan

My team at work is 6 people, and two of those keep catching COVID and not coincidentally keep getting sicker and sicker in general. One just turned 30 and has a cardiologist now (was perfectly healthy before repeated infection), and our boss was so bad last week she had to go to the hospital.

Protecting yourself from COVID is just common sense. Repeated infections appear to leave behind long-term damage in many people.

@Biohazardous @JeriLRyan I fear we - as a species - are going to get an extremely harsh lesson from all of this.

@Biohazardous @JeriLRyan
Covid-19 suppresses your immune system, meaning you don't have a natural immunity from it.

Furthermore, each time you get sick, traumatic outcomes become more likely.

@JeriLRyan I work in a hospital and people are still coming in positive. Plus a lot of upper respiratory lately too.
@JeriLRyan I want my blood tested for science. I'm an ICU nurse so basically in the thick of it. I've had countless exposures at work while masked and some amongst friends while unmasked. I've also had breeches in my gear while working on the covid units. I've never had it. Had so many tests I'm surprised my nose is intact. I even had my blood tested and the only antibodies I had were vaccine antibodies, no natural ones. I feel like I'm made of teflon. I still mask in certain situations.
@JeriLRyan and never will be, as has surely entered seasonal cadence. Anyone is welcomed to wear masks and should not be intimidated for doing so, but we should NEVER again have restrictions and lockdowns, if we learn anything from the past.

@JeriLRyan

A friend just got covid from a cruiseship... why the f'k are people still going on cruises? They're bigger disease factories than a toddler's daycare classroom.

@JeriLRyan I just had to tell a mother she couldn't visit her son in the hospital because someone in his ward had tested positive for covid.

They weren't sure, but they didn't think she could even drop off some food she had prepared for him.

(That said, the confirmed cases in MA last week were less than 1000, a far cry from the 2000 *a day* at the peak of the pandemic.)

@JeriLRyan

I still wear a mask at work and in stores. 😷😷😷😷😷😷

@JeriLRyan My sister got it a few weeks ago. She was wearing a mask (KN95) but she was in a car (very small space) with someone who was *not* wearing a mask.

A couple days later person from the car told her they tested positive for COVID.

My sister was miserable for weeks. Took paxlovid, had rebound. Seems to be okay now, finally.

@JeriLRyan Can concur. A friend got sick last week
@JeriLRyan My neighbour has had it three times (!). Luckily, he is young, fully vaccinated and has a fairly good base level of health. You do wonder though, if there will be unforeseen sequelae further down the line.
@JeriLRyan Well, it's not really a surprise there are a little over 60 flu viruses still in the air and COVID is not different it's just not as virulent as it was.
@JeriLRyan Yup, still masking at work, it protects me, and irritates plague rats.
