Did you know if you hold CTRL in Task Manager, it will pause real time updates? 👀

That means the processes on the Processes or Details page don't move around if you're sorted by something like CPU or Memory and it's easier to select the one that you're trying to click

@JenMsft ooh, that's a good one. Thanks! ablobcathappypaws
@JenMsft how didn't I know this! Thank you! :)
@JenMsft A pause command would be nice so you don’t have to hold the key. As far as I know this doesn’t exist today.
@kellylford It's possible to set Task Manager to just generally not update in real time (in the settings) and then I believe it will do real time updates only when you hold F5 (this isn't exactly what you're asking for, but maybe it will help)
@JenMsft Does this work when selecting a process using the keyboard?
@BTyson I just tried on my PC and I was able to arrow up and down through the list while holding CTRL and the sort order of the list didn't change until I released CTRL
@JenMsft If I use this method to navigate the list of processes so that it doesn't refresh, do I have to hit space to cause that item to be selected, or does it still select it when I use control with the arrow keys?
@BTyson For me just arrow alone made it selected, but I didn't try with a screenreader to see if it was the same. I could try later if you want - I'm heading out for a bit
@JenMsft WHAT!? Oh my god I wish I knew this earlier.. don’t tell me this has existed for years 🙈
@JenMsft I did not know that!
@JenMsft Did you know on a Mac you don’t have to be constantly opening task manager to keep the machine running?
@JenMsft It absolutely amazes me how you're still blowing my mind with Windows tricks after all these years.
@JenMsft Thanks! That’s something I need to remember but also easily forgotten. It could do with a Pause Updates button rather than a magic key press. The loading time is still shocking too, do you know if there’s work underway to improve that?
@JenMsft Yes and I keep accidentally hitting it and thinking my machine has frozen. Would be nice if they showed the update frequency in the UI.
@JenMsft Amazing! But will it disable achievements?
@JenMsft that is really useful ! thanks.
@JenMsft this is the best new thing you've taught me 🥹
@JenMsft How many years have I been using this and I did not know that?! Thanks.
