#AllPowerEmanatesFromThePeople

Yes and no.
Lindbergh was just one of the #AmericanFirst movement.

No, what I meant is that I think one governor campaigned from prison, but it has been many months since I listened to Rachel's excellent pod.

What is more: I might not like #TFG, but the concept is correct:
In a democracy, all power resides in the People.
If they decide he should be the future office holder, than, logically this must "absolve" him from his crimes,...

...at least for the time being (i.e., while he holds office, a classic concept of the #RomanRepublic.)

It is logical.

This is important.

Presently, we have a probable criminal who might run for re-election. We don't like that.

In 5 years time, though, we might have a #Georgian situation.
In that country, the former president is serving time as a (political) prisoner of the incumbent leader.

So, the principle must be absolute.
The People decide: "All power emanates from the People."*

What is wrong is the missing reform of the electoral system:

The catch with banning gerrymandering is drawn minority districts go away as well.

This site has a really cool concept I would see as a neutral starting point for non-political drawing of districts.

https://bdistricting.com/2020/

Drawn simply by math to make each district as close to the same size, and with every voter as close to the center as possible making them more compact and contiguous blocks. (The 2010 pages of the same site have both the actual and math maps to show just how crazy it is)

@pixelpusher220 @HistoPol @Hey_Beth
We have several current problems with this. The first is that the 2020 census appears to be inaccurate especially where minority groups are concerned. One of the reasons that DeJoy willfully and aggressively tried to dismantle the USPS was to impact the census. The second is that the SCOTUS sat on the last case until after the election. That was no accident.

@noondlyt @HistoPol @Hey_Beth

It's the method that's important. The input data can be resolved, but in any event doesn't do anything worse than the current flagrant draws for this system.

Districts need to be drawn apolitically. States are starting to move towards that idea. Md did this time I think, VA has a quasi 'balanced' group that draws districts vs the legislatures with vested interested in the maps.

Open math to draw districts seems the basest level of neutral to start negotiations to rectify input data issues.

@pixelpusher220 @HistoPol @Hey_Beth
I support this. There is the issue that the other side does not want this neutrality in the least, which is why we are here. Implementation of anything fair means the gop goes out of power permanently.

@noondlyt @HistoPol @Hey_Beth

yeah that's the dilemma, we can't let the GOP regain power, yet we need to do it in a way that doesn't just do the same things in reverse. i.e. any powers we grant ourselves...the next time the fascist get into power, they'll use them in the worst possible way.

It's one reason we don't have actual 'domestic terrorism' laws...b/c they'd just be used against rightful protests by the fascists. Georgia is already going down this road trying to declare anyone protesting something...who doesn't live there...would be classified a terrorist.

Hopefully, providing a simple and truly neutral solution such as this, garners some of the vaunted 'middle' that rivals bigfoot in it's visibility, or at least smokes out would be fake collaborators as being literally against math.

Lots of battles on many fronts unfortunately.

@pixelpusher220 @noondlyt @HistoPol @Hey_Beth

Chump was doing a pretty good job of bringing the party down. Like NY prosecutors are saving the GOP for something effective.

I remember CNN telling me to like the CIA and FBI because Chump challenged their control.

That became un-funny when the hate groups sprang up everywhere. Still here but less violent - must have got their ass kicked.

@pixelpusher220

Yes, agreed, provided that the input data has not been significantly "tweaked."

...And so many illegal gerrymandered districts in this country, giving a lock on state and local elections to the gop.

Yes, gerrymandering has been a pretty efficient and damaging strategy they have been using in many #RedStates. I have followed that #SCOTUS seems to have ruled, surprisingly, not in favor in one state recently.

However, the grand strategy/ legal theory (that is not supported by most #ConstitutionalLawyers) is #ISLT (#IndependentStateLegislatureTheory.)

I had been expected that the highjacked @scotus would rule in favor of the outlier theory, giving...
