Daring Fireball
@daringfireball which means that r/videos and r/iphone are getting new moderators soon.
@daringfireball lots of Reddit mods are about to find out that the actual users of the service don’t actually agree how irreplaceable said mods are.
@daringfireball Reddit is pursuing short-term profits with a risky strategy that could alienate some of its most engaged users — another reason to support decentralized social networks like Mastodon. I’m pessimistic that this protest will make a difference but I’m glad they’re trying.
@daringfireball Really seems like Reddit is taking a stab at Eloning itself.

@rvcx @daringfireball
They're now banning users who post instructions/links on how to migrate to alternative sites, and they're also a/b testing the blocking of mobile visitors to their site unless they're using the first party app.

So yeah, Huffman is going full Space Karen.

@freediverx There is a LOT of commentary about how Elon is really showing the industry that it’s possible to slash a bloated staff, that you can demand more from spoiled employees, that management needn’t cow-tow to in-house “experts”, and that you don’t need to do so much performative hand-wringing over content moderation…

…as though the one data point they are pointing to isn’t literally a profitable business that has gone bankrupt faster than any other billion-dollar company in history.

🤷

@daringfireball I’m not a long-time Reddit user, but pride myself that I helped some people over the past ~5 years there. It is sad that it got that ugly, but I 100% support moderators’ decision to make their subreddits private! Even if they are replaced by Reddit, I would not return to the site until all this BS is settled! The content on Reddit is created by the Redditors, not by the management and I’m hoping that the management understands that!

@daringfireball
I'm now seeing reports that some users (maybe subs) are being banned as spam for posting information and/or links to Reddit alternatives.

Meanwhile…

@daringfireball
And… Reddit is testing blocking mobile users from accessing the website, directing those users to the desktop site or their first party app.
